I'm trying to figure out the best fruit trees to plant in my backyard in Minneapolis. Besides a dwarf honeycrisp, I'm considering plum, cherry, apricot, peach, & crabapple. Here are the features I'm looking for: * showy flowers in the spring * doesn't get too big (small backyard) * self-pollinating preferably so I don't need 2 of each * good tasting fruit, maybe even right off the tree? * maybe a crabapple with fruit I could collect to make wine What are you favorites? Which ones have been most reliable and good to eat? Thanks!

I've had two that were alot like the $100 one. They were made by Whirlpool. That one looks fairly old, which may actually be a good thing - the more recent ones (from about 1985 onward) used a new design that dispensed with belts, but also had very little 'twist' in the agitator post and tried to make up for it by moving very fast. The result shredded many of my shirts, especially if it was loaded near capacity. The older ones also spin faster, so the dryer won't take as long. The other one in the $50 ad I have less experience with, but probably resembles the current models in Sears stores now. Think they're still made by Whirlpool, which has a good reliability record. Not at all familiar with the Danby. For that money though, I'd look for LG's small top-load washer which does away with the agitator post - a good thing for these smaller machines with not much room in them to begin with. Or see if you can find one of LG's front-load 24"/60cm washers used (they've been sold in Canada for quite awhile now, still fairly new in the US) which work much better than any of the above.

YES!! I was just looking up osmanthus fragrant and was going to suggest that maybe that was it. Yay! I always wanted sweet olive. They really only smell good when you sniff them, but maybe they will be more fragrant when there are more flowers. The one gardenia bloom smells so good, I can't help but sniff it every time I.
