Just curious.. Another question to think about

What is your favorite time of the day and why?

What do you do during that time.

I would have to say my favorite time is early morning.

I love the quietness of the house. My dog snores so bad at night we have to keep her away from our bedroom because it bothers DH, so when I get up early (like 4:30-5:00 am) I come out to the kitchen get my cup of go-juice (coffee) sit down and I can hear my dog snoring. I enjoy that, because she just sounds so satisfied and relaxed. I get on the computer sometimes and check out the KT ( don't have much other time throughout the day) and just relax before all the rush starts for the day.

This is my quiet and relaxing time of the day.

Mine is right after my coffee is made, and I come into my bedroom, and set down here at the computer. Usually around 7:00. Now when spring/summer gets here, I'll be setting at the cabin, on the patio, having my coffee watching and listening to the birds. I can't wait.

Leaving the plant residue in the ground does no harm and can be beneficial because the soil bacteria will digest that material in place and any nutrients the plants removed would be put right back into the soil. Whether buring the above ground residue would be harmful to the Soil Food Web will depend on what the soil temperature are below that fire. Burning is never a good idea since it does destroy valuable organic matter and pollutes the air we breath, but may not harm what is in the soil if the fire does not last very long and does not heat the soil up beyond what the Soil Food Web finds uncomfortable and they do not have time to move deeper into the soil and away fom that heat. There are some that still believe that burning "crop" residue on the garden will put the minerals from those residues back into the soil and kill any disease pathogens, and possibly any insect pests, that may be on or around those residues, and that may well do that, but that practice will also kill any beneficial insects that overwintered there as well, and possibly destroy the natural immnunity the Soil Food Web was developing against the potential plant disease. Knowing, today, that burning "crop" residue is not good in any way it is surprising that there are those that still do that.

Thanks very much to those of you who have "answered roll call!";) It looks like the northern zones seem to have an edge here... Here is a picture of my hedge, taken in October of 2007. (I am 5'7" tall, for perspective) Behind me, there are some "self seeders" that I let grow, to see how tall they would get. Beautiful plants, but not as tall as the ones I started. They were also not in the compost bed...the taller ones were. I'm happy to hear that the winter sowing method still produces good sized plants. I think the amended soil is a big factor... Emily

Well, i guess i'm one of the younger of us gals and guys here (49), i got my license when i was 16. sometimes i wish we all would get tested. here when you go for re-newal - you get it for X number of years, one time mine was for 9 years and last year when it came up - 5 years - and $50.00. you have to check off these boxes yes or no, do you wear glasses, do you have heart problems or a diabetic, and i can't remember the other questions, sign the form, get your picture taken. but al's uncle came over 3 weeks ago and his wife said he has to go for an eye test and a drivers test, he turned 75, she said to me i hope it's not renewed. i'm probably the slowest driver in town, i obay all the lights (this city is known for running reds! and you can drive from one end of the city to the other in 20 minutes, so i don't know what the hurry is - lol). we live by a seniors center and i swear one of these days someone is going to get into a big accident, jokingly i say to al, boy they must have had alot of fun there today, look how they ran the stop sign. i was also reading somewhere (maybe woman's day, or family circle) that if you had a 70 year old and a 25 year old talking on a cell phone that their reflexes would be the same. but i will admit if i didn't have to drive i wouldn't, then again when i do drive i take all the back ways to get where i'm going also i plan my route so i don't have to make many left had turns. ps matthew got me a new bike from work, but no helmut (law in the city, plus no riding on sidewalks). debbie

Mary_c, thank you for the article with the facts. The real story is nothing like what the OP posted. The article clearly says, "They [she and husband] left the service in 2005 when their enlistments were up." So this is not a case of being asked to "finish the four years" of enlistment as the OP wrote in the post. She is IRR. A person IRR can apply for a waiver. Some are granted but not all are. I do think that it is asking a lot to expect former troops to remain ready for the rest of their lives and not ever get on with their life. This fact is downplayed by recruiters and some recruiters even lie to applicants about what the real obligation is when you sign and take the oath, so it may not be clear to many who join. I am wondering who signed to take care of the children when they were active duty? Where are they now?

Ditto Minnie! Absolutely, down to the "my undoing" part. I know it's my worst bad habit, staying up too late, but I love the late hours, after everyone else is in bed, it's quiet, and I can do what I want. From 6am to 10pm I am pretty much bound to what others need done. From 10pm to about midnight I am on the computer, reading, playing a game, sending a long email to friends. Sometimes I'm doing laundry at the same time, or I have computer work that I need to get done, but it's still quiet, uninterupted... my time. If I don't have to be anywhere in the morning, I will stay up way too late!

If I happen to wake up early, before everyone else, which happens more in the summer, I also like that quiet time.

I am definitely a night-owl. I love to read and sit at the computer and just relax until 1:30 A.M. or so. I seldom have to get up at any given time, so it works for me.

Sunrise with a cup of coffee on the patio when it's warm enough & much prefer to be alone for the first cup at least.

Really love watching the sunsets too tho' & feel very blessed to be able to see both; find it fascinating to see how quickly the sun & sky change colors.

The clock change snuck up on me.

I'm still here.

Heavily shorted on beauty sleep, it appears.

It also appears that I'm something of a night-owl ...

... but who gives a hoot?

I'm with Stephanie-all the way. It's the only time I don't have anyone around me, when I can totally be alone to do what I choose! And..there's nothing better than to sip early morning coffee while peacefully enjoying the beginning of a new dawn!
