Hi, I find guest rooms to be the most fun to decorate because you can sort of make it your dream room that stays clean all of the time :-) I second Lynn's suggestions and would let them know in advance if you are going to have a hairdryer or iron in case they are inclined to pack it. I'm sort of a linen junky and decorate my rooms around my duvet covers. We're in New England so down is a must (and down alternative works great too!). I own the Sienna Paisely duvet and love it, however, when I brought it home it almost had a yellow undertone to it. I have a very neutral room so I ended up bringing in yellow accents and it looks great. I also own the PB Painterly Paisley in blue and that looks fabulous with beige/tan. You may want to look at that one as it will probably go with your existing wall color. I believe it's on sale now and I also tend to find good duvet deals on ebay. Oh and I would definitely try making the headboard dark!

Water-resistant canvas is immaterial. The prints themselves are printed with water-based ink-jet inks (that's why they need a UV coating), which will run if they get wet. They may call it 'giclee', but it's just an ink-jet printer, with all the same problems. What in the world is the point of 'water-resistant canvas' anyway? It's cloth. What's the point, unless you're going to hang them in the shower?

8.5x11 has a different aspect ratio than 11x16. That means that you are going to lose some of the width of the image in the new format. There's white space, so I don't think it's a big deal. 11x14 would be a closer fit and I think is a readily available size for canvas prints. I don't think the increase in size will be a stretch If you start with a high resolution scan of the original.
