I don't think I actually had hero's, but Saturday afternoons were filled with Roy Rogers, Gene Autry and the Lone Ragers. There were also serials that kept you coming back next week. It cost a dime.............Wow, I am really, really old.

I didn't have any in particular, but I remember my brothers imitating Daniel Boone a lot, so they must have admired him.

My parents were my hereos.

When we started to go to movies on Saturday in elementary school I loved Alan Ladd Tyrone Power Turhen Bey and later James Mason. I don't think any of us had real "heroes"

My two oldest brothers, Elvis, Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy.

My first hero was my first love .... Nelson Eddy. I was 9-10 years old, and I saw every movie I could and I was sure that he and Jeanette McDonald were married because of they way they looked at each other and held and kissed each other.

I was very jealous of Jeanette!

They were never married, but there is a story there.

My parents were my heroes. They had 10 children and we lived on a farm and never had much. There was always love there though. My dad was a WW11 veteran and he was injured in the war and I always looked up to him.

Doctor Tom Dooley, in the 1950's he established hospitals in the jungles of southeast Asia. He died of melanoma in his early 30's. I read all his books.

Sandra Day O'Connor. I always wanted to be an attorney and I felt like the sky was the limit after she became Associate Justice (I was 13, in 7th grade, so not quite elementary school).

I didn't have heros. My parents never worshipped people either.

When I read this question, I thought and I thought. I knew the answer but had to think for awhile how that came about.

For 5 years in my childhood, I grew up in an institution for disabled children. It was a place where I received proper care and therapy for my disability. I was without my immediate family during those years. This institution ran by Catholic nuns. It was here that I was taught Christianity (Roman Catholic). Jesus became my hero. His life story helped me to persevere during my therapy and overcame many obstacles.

I did not get to watch much T.V. growing up. It was turned on Sat. nite after we went to bed and my mom and dad relaxed and watch it. But I had a hero, I wanted to be a nurse like Florence Nightingale. Did I ever become a nurse? No, it never happened. But, I was a Florence Nightingale hero worshipper. LOL

War hero was McArthur.

Didn't really have any heroes as such but loved, loved, loved Allan Ladd and Van Johnson.....and of course, Roy Rogers, Gene Autry and Hopalong Cassidy.

My heros were major league baseball players....I especially liked Mickey Mantle.
And yes, I know he wasn't much of a role model in his personal life but I loved the Yankees and I loved baseball.

At the ages of five.six and seven I guess they would be Superman,Zorro,,Mighty Mouse and various characters in westerns since those are who we tried to emulate.

As I grew older I had no heroes but I did have role models I admired.

Now I think the term hero is used too freely. I have respect for a few people who have made their mark but I have no one I would call a true hero in today's world. At least no one who is a public figure.

The word courage has gone out of American culture. Now we have a culture of "be safe" and "don't get involved". Don't do the right thing. Do the safe thing. Ugh.

My all time hero and perhaps the greatest love story I ever heard was my Grandfather.

In 1908 my Grandmother came to America from Holland as an indentured servant. In exchange for paying her passage and providing her room and board she had to work as a cook and housekeeper for a well to do family in my hometown for a period of 7 years. Grandmother worked 6 days a week from 6am till 9pm and on Sunday if she had the family dinner servived buffet style by 11am she was free to go off for the afternoon providing she returned by 6pm.

It was my Grandfathers job to hitch a team of horses every day and haul the milk from the family farm to the creamery and on his route he would stop by the house where Grandmother was working to sell them fresh milk, butter, eggs and whatever produce they had in season.

Grandfather had a few minutes everyday to talk to Grandma and within a couple months Grandad started hitching a buggy and picking her up on Sunday for a short picnic in the local city park. That continued for three years until Grandfather and Grandmother decided they wanted to be married so Grandfather went to the rich family she worked for and negotiated what they felt the balance of her contract was worth. He then paid off her contract, relieving her of her last three years of servitude and they were free to go off and get married.

For the first couple years after Grandma and Grandpa were married they lived at my Great Grandfathers farm until Grandfather could raise enough money to make a down payment on a farm.

In 1919 my Grandfather bought a 160 acre farm where he and Grandmother raised 12 children and when Grandad died in 1965 he had the entire farm, all the livestock and all machinery completely paid for. Not a single bill in the world.

In addition to being a dairy farmer Grandfather was a well renown blacksmith, wheelright, and harness maker, all of that with an 8th grade education.

As a young girl I loved Little Lulu, she was fierce lol. Then went on to Wonder Woman, great outfit. I wanted to be Veronica in the Archie books cuz she was smart. All my heroes were women but I had a huge crush on Roy Rogers.

Superman, of course, till he shot himself.

i think because of the time frame, we baby-boomers recovering from ww2, turned to the new invention the tv, the movies, for heros...

it was much later i found out how my grandmother did her bit as rosey the riviter..or how her youngest 2 boys, worked 2 farms, attended school, and pretty much raised themselve all during hs...(the 3 older kids, including my mother, left home) 3 out of the 5 kids, all attended college, graduated...

My parents are my true-life heroes. My Grandmother was a widow, the only way she could keep her head above water was by turning her home into a boarding house. My Mom grew up with very little. When she graduated high school, she got a job as a secretary for $15 a week. My Dad's family was hit hard by the Depression. Seven children, nine mouths to feed. His own mom had a garden and his Dad was a "stevedore" (there's a job you never hear about!)working at the docks. He would steal meat from the ships and bring it home for dinner.
