Madi turns two with Elmo

It's hard to believe, but Madi's second birthday was December 6. See how big she's getting, sitting with her Mom?

Little Sister is growing too, at least in the cheeks, LOL. Uncle Dave is having fun right now, about 10 seconds after this picture she spit up all over him. That was fun for the rest of us. (grin)

Madi's current "best friend" is Elmo, she loves him, and wanted an Elmo cake. OK, I can do that:

The cake was plain vanilla, but I made three layers and dyed them light pink, fuschia and purple, very colorful with the red and pink frosting, LOL.

I made some cupcakes too, they were chocolate. The Elmo decorations are children size rings, party favors from a local store, but they worked well, all the kids got to keep them after they ate the cupcakes.

The kids got lots of sugar, I got some practice on buttercream ruffles, and a good time was had by all!

Well, nothing redneck about this party celebration! Madi sure has grown. Two! How did that happen. What a lucky girl to have a grandmother who can whip up a cake like that one. It's a masterpiece.

PS, I'd throw up on that orange Cabela's shirt, too. ;)

Luna Moth has the green center with chartreuse margin. Sun Power is the big yellow. Sun Power, Lancifolia and Luna Moth are planted in a triangle. The Lancifolia can go the way of the wind, I have more sitting around in pots. The two tissue cultures of Blaze of Glory and Sunshine Glory have a few extra years of growing before they outgrow the spot. I accidentally threw away the Sunshine Glory in the compost pile when I didn't think it made it through the first winter in a growers pot. I found a tiny bright yellow hosta with a thin white margin growing in the pile so I dug it up and threw it in a pot. It took me awhile to figure out which one it was from the list of about 100 new hosta I got the year before. I am thinking about changing a couple of hosta from the planting plan already. Elegans, it gets big. Rocket's Red Glare, it needs to be in spot to show off the red pets. I am thinking about swapping those two out with Azure Snow and Blue Boy. Blue Boy is already sitting in a pot and the other needs moved away from Empress Wu as she is quickly becoming a very big girl.

Congratulations, MrGary.....you've done an outstanding job. I am saving your post to my clippings so I can go back to it easily for reference. I think the one you cannot remember might be Alex Summers. It sure looks like mine. I won't picture it here, but mine is about the same age as yours....I'm just a sophomore with hosta myself, so our plants are "of an age." I'm pleased to see you are growing Banyai's Dancing Girl. It looks almost like Blue Cadet, and it is a very inexpensive choice to mass plant. Van Wade suggests it as an edger if you ever need such a feature. I edge with liriope here in zone 9a. But I am making a collection of the smaller blue hosta such as BC and BDGirl since I don't like being redundant and I like variety. Things such as Drummer Boy, Dear Hearts, Happy Hearts, Cheatin Heart (golden), Golden Tiara, Grand Tiara, Twist of Lime, Lemon Lime, Feather Boa....well, I fibbed, I just like the smaller mounding hosta blue or gold or green! Thanks for treating us to a beautiful garden.

LOL... It happened and I was only in my 40's. But you got to understand, if you were me, you could have made that same mistake! Picture this.... How often do you see the same make, year, color minivan with tinted windows parked at the handicapped parking space at the same time and next to each others? I mean... after all, red is not that popular of a color for minivans. Well... now you see... even young people can make that same mistakes 4 times. LOL... yep, 4 times. Come to think of it, I'm wondering if it has been the same van (not mine) that I kept trying to open the door with my key over and over again. Hum.... Anyway, my van now has a noticeable scratch that ID it. When I see the scratch, I know the key would work. It is mine :)

Well, the party was today, and Madison was one happy little whirling dervish, and her sister just ate cookies and was happy too. We also had ham sandwiches, salsa and chips, some fruit snacks and white chocolate covered pretzels. The cake was all eaten and the doll was dressed and appropriately welcomed into the "family". Sharon, I can't believe she's three either, and the Littlest Sister is a year old. She learned a new word today. "Olaf". That's the snowman from the movie, LOL, and she loves him. Madison was a good big sister and let Little Sis play with her presents too. Just wait. Before you know it you'll be all snuggled up with a grandchild, eating cookies and watching movies about Princesses or Pirates. You'll be amazing at it too, I know. TWO??? Madi is two? Oh my, when did that happen? She's a doll as is her little sis! Our DD had big cheeks too and we nicknamed her "Winston(Churchill)". She went on to be petite!
Elmo was the first or second cake for our grands too. They all love him and you've done a lovely rendition. Our first cake looked truly monsterous! LOL

Elmo is over 40 yo, and is still cute.

Looks like Madi will be still cute when she reaches 40.
