Anyone else watch FN's new Alex's Day Off

Haven't seen anyone mention watching this. I wasn't crazy about this woman as a judge on the Chopped shows, but on her new cooking show she's got all the others beat, even Ida. It's only been on 4 Sundays now and I just won't miss it. It's a new standard that FN needs to keep!

I only first heard of it last week. Taped this last show, but haven't watched it yet. And the only reason I wanted to check it out was because of having seen her on Chopped. She can be harsh, can't she?

I've seen her as a judge on Iron Chef, and have liked her there. She has a great sense of humor. I work Saturdays, and keep forgetting to tape the Saturday cooking shows on PBS and on Food Network, so I haven't seen it yet. I need to start remembering to do that, as I'm curious about her show.

i do know what is making these end caps to crack and break. The steam that escapes from the dishwasher causes these cheap plastic end caps to become brittle and crack. it is nothing the customers are doing to cause this. The material is not strong enough to withstand the hest. Bosch even mentions it on their website. You can buy a “skin cover” and a kit that will replace the skin with the handle. I am going to do this and the parts and skin are around $200-250. This is worth it to me, as the dishwasher does a grest job! i am going on my fourth set of end caps and my dishwasher is only a year old! I was accused by the repaiman of banging into the handles to cause the end caps to break. He also said it isnt happening to anyone else. Im so done with those end caps! Good luck everyone!

They are odd.All theyre worried about is money.we ordered a beautiful sleigh bed.You had to pay a good bit upfriont.which was ok we I need balance now with charge card.I said Id rather not I would like to pay when they deliver so I can check it out make sure its not damaged.Oh no we need it now.well later here they came.We also bought a new fancy schmansy temperpedic mattress and box spring.He said go get a knife Ill cut plastic off mattress for you.I had a utility knife in craft room so I was back quick ,to find him repairing a section about 10" long they scraped along the way.He put like a gummy wax with stain you can see it plain as day.For the money I paid for that bed.No Im sorry, nothing.Im done with them.Theyre giving out deliveries to a lot of times kids who dont give a rats a%a% about the products. Last Christmas my husband surprised me with the LG Tromm red washer and dryer,I was at dialysis so my daughter was here.They come in with the stands the washer and dryer stands on and it had this huge dent on top I mean it was 4" deep,It was big.she said oh no mom will be mad you cant leave that,The top of washer had alot of scratches on top looked like a used washer.sorry for ranting but geeze people.

cindyloo, thanks for bringing that up -- somewhere near the bottom of my to-do list is finding some fab fabric for that chair cushion. That beige leather is so drab. I had it covered years ago with a fabric that worked for the room it was in, then it was in DS's room for a while, then back down here. Now that I have my new chair, I may be inspired to move that "job" closer to the top of my list!

More acurately, "Chicago" isn't experiencing a spate of killings. The ENGLEWOOD area of Chicago is. This is where our DIL taught junior high (to kids as old as 16), one of whom was finally expelled after threatening to kill her with a knife (after being suspended for threatening another teacher). It's a whole 'nother world. The shootings are gang-related, but nobody is safe. Very few of DIL's students lived with even one relative. School was their only 'safe place', and often the only source of nourishing food. Have any of you watched "The Wire"? That HBO series about Baltimore had it spot-on about the gangs, the police, the schools. In one scene a seasoned teacher explains to a new recruit that on Mondays the kids come in traumatised and exhausted. By Tuesday you see a few smiles. Wednesday is the best day. By Thursday they're alreading dreading the weekend. Friday is grim. It's a waste of time and money trying to help these kids the way we did it in the past. My 'solution' is for the public schools to offer boarding school to parents who want to see their children have better lives. (Same rules as private boarding schools regarding limited visits, rights to kick a kid out for cause.) We're already feeding these kids and paying out child support. Think of the savings for police, hospitals, prisons. Think of breaking the cycle of hopelessness for the ones who want to learn another way to live.

Nope, I haven't seen her. I don't watch "chopped" so I'm not really familiar with her, although I've seen her as a judge on a couple of things, I think.

Saturday? I seldom have time to watch television, even on weekends, but I'll have to try to catch that one of these Saturdays.

Last night I watched the episode I taped. I was pleasantly surprised. Alex was very relaxed and not condescending at all (in my opinion, she kinda comes across that way on Chopped). I even learned something I want to try. For bacon bits she cut the bacon very small, then added a cup of water to the pan while it cooked. She said that this way much of the fat is rendered from the bacon before starting to crisp. I interpret that to mean that I won't have to brown the bacon as long and it won't be dry or overcooked. At any rate, I'm going to give it a try.

She used to be on the Cooking Loft(?). I really like her style and the stories she shares while she is cooking. My favorite kind of day off is just like hers, go to the special grocery store, take home something that looks good and make dinner. But I have to admit, there is usually a bottle of wine involved while I'm cooking :). She also shares cooking tips that I haven't heard yet. I hope she stays on.

The judges on Chopped are told to look/act "menacing". Don't judge their personalities by that show. I've not watched Alex's new show but have enjoyed her on many other shows.
