My female pom is killing my grass

I have a female pom and she pee's in the same spot and the same area all the time. She is killing my grass. Does anyone know of anything that will stop this?? I have heard something about tomato juice in their water and it will stop this but I dont know if thats true. Anyone have any ideas??? Please help.... Thanks, Sue

How big a spot is it? She has to pee somewhere.

If you just pour water on the pee area (this dilutes the pee) after the dog goes, that will take care of new spots.

In time, the area will fill in if the dog pees somewhere else. This works on my very large 3 females.

It looks like you have Sedge grass coming back Ortho backs a product just for sedge as for the Round up it way not be sticking to the leaves/blades on it they make a product to add to it so it adheres to waxy type plants . It might also be Bermuda grass check to see if it has rhizome type roots if so it will take several applications of round to kill it and I wouldn't mix it to strong or it might keep your new grass from doing well . Sedge is a paler or yellow green than Fescue or Kentucky Blue

I feel your pain on Zoysia. I absolutely HATE this stuff. You really need to use a non-selective weed killer. Not to sound like an ad, but I stick with RoundUp. You want something that works very fast, because you WILL need multiple applications in order to feel confident you killed it. Drench the whole area with RU. Do not cut the lawn at this point since RU is absorbed through the green leaves, so the more green available the better. Then, wait a few weeks and get up close and personal and again hit any green you see with RU. You may at this point want to trim it back a little shorter (maybe cut the top 1/3). This will allow you to see whether there is any green underneath. Wait another two to three weeks, then do it again. I know this sounds excessive, but you are taking on the Ivan Drago of grasses. You will likely want to remove the dead Zoysia because it is would be impossible to seed through a lawn as thick a Zoysia. Because this is a very time consuming process, I usually being the process in July. I chose July because: 1) the Zoysia will have FINALLY turned green by then and 2) October is the best time to plant grass seen in Maryland. Is this a case where maybe you blanket sprayed at maybe a little heavy on the application rate? It does resemble an herbicide burn, and I don't see any direct indication of bacterial or fungal issues. To rescue, the best thing to do during the summer is actually to do very little. Mow it, keep it watered, and otherwise let it return on its own. Summer is stress enough on the lawn. If you feel you must feed, do it organically only until Labor Day. Synthetics are just going to stress that further. However, bag rate of Milorganite or 15 pounds per thousand square feet of soybean meal wouldn't be taken amiss at this point (even if you already fed synthetically, but if you already fed organically wait until August).

Linked below is an excellent article on this topic. Please note that anything added to the dog's water or food either doesn't work or is not good for your dog. The best answer seems to be training your dog to go in one area that is hidden or has no turf.

I cant say for sure because I don't know how short you cut your grass but keeping it about 3 or 3.5 inches can lessen the chances of it burning. It's also better for your lawn because it needs less watering. This applies only to blue/fescue/rye type lawns as I think Bermuda grass lawns are supposed to be kept short to thrive. Other than that I would keep the hose or a watering can handy and douse the spot asap after she pees to dilute it.

This is an age old problem. The bottom line is you can watch where she goes every time then rush out there and water it down. Some also suggest using sugar. OR like was mentioned train to go in a certain spot that is mulched. OR just get used to the fact the lawn will sort of be like the floor inside your house with 2 bigger dogs.... Always messed up.

Depending on what kind of grass you have, you may be able to overseed the bare spots.

I'm with QQ on this one... Capone doesn't burn our backyard - but when we go out and play with him, he does leave ridiculously deep ruts in the ground when he makes a quick turn. I used to go out and tamp down every tuft of grass, but that got old real quick. I still sweep daily, mop/vacuum every other day... *Sigh* (mostly due to his rope toys - the fringe really bugs me.)

Now I know how my mother felt after cleaning up the house then I immediatly started to make a mess.

I long for the 10 minutes that I have after cleaning the floors to just stand there and enjoy it before it gets dirty again and covered with grass, leaves, twigs.
