For those looking to buy a new camera

I had mentioned in another post that Photkina is starting September 14,tomorrow. "What's Photkina?" - It is basically a photography conference where all the camera makers show off there new toys. There have been several pre-announcements Nikon (D80) and Canon(XTi) both introduced their new 10MP entry level DLSRs and I am eagerly waiting for whatever Olympus has up their sleeves.

However, Pentax released the specs on the new K10D, WOW. You can find good used Pentaz lenses really cheap but after this announcement they might become harder to find. All this for only $899. Very promising. Some other things that caught my attention.

A REAL Image Stabilization system, CCD Shift

Dust and weather proof seals

22 bit

DNG(Raw),JPEG, JPEG+Raw, no Tiff tough

11 point AF

30 - 1/4000 shutter speeds

High ISO

3 Frames/second

Battery Grip optional

USB 2.0 out

SD/ SDHC

Cable switch/PC out

Having all of these features is unheard of for a sub $1K camera. These, of course, are from reviews from pre-production models so the true test will be seen when the camera hits full production. Then the real quality of the camera can be judged then. However, everything is looking really good for this camera. I would definately take a look at this camera if you are planning to treat yourself anytime soon, I will be one of the first in line to play with it.
