Great pics. I was wondering what happen to you as I really enjoy your pictures. Thanks for sharing. The wedding pic is fantastic.

I blew a lot of shots at that wedding. The one I posted was one I especially liked, was told I couldn't use my flash during the ceremony, got a couple good ones anyway. Here at the reception, I put on my sharpest lens and flash and had a better percentage of keepers. I was trying to figure out how I could have done this one better, it seems hard to avoid body parts missing unless the shot is posed. I got a lot of constructive criticism and sure need to put into practice what I learned. For one thing, I don't have the right lenses to do weddings without flash except for one.

I'm so curious what the pro used, and I think he was using his flash during the ceremony. He had his flash mounted high on a bracket, got a couple photos of him but can't figure out what kind of camera and didn't notice him zooming (well he was zooming around all right, getting into position for his shots lol) but that is not to say he didn't use a zoom lens. Of course, lots of guests had cameras with them, too.

I wouldn't belabor the point, but this was one new experience for me. I came out of it having great respect for good wedding photographers where everything depends on you and there are no retakes. They had a friend who worked at the tv station, and he borrowed a video cam and taped the whole ceremony on the altar. I was told I couldn't be on the altar :-). I respected what I was told, was grateful for their giving me freedom of movement almost anywhere I wanted but the altar. I've taken photos since I was a kid, but never thought about what real photography was like.

The only thing I noticed was that the pro was mainly taking pics of the bridal party, ceremony, the dance, etc. I went around and got a lot of peripheral shots and two of the most adorable photos I have ever taken of a little girl who was a guest at the wedding, piano player, soloist, pastor, individual bridal party and guest head shots, the gifts, autographed picture, caterers, table candles, etc., etc.

And I got my favorite beautiful stained glass window I have been intending to call the church and ask if I could come in and take it having no idea how the light would be (this window is on the north side), thinking I would have to take my tripod probably in the morning light. The wedding was at night, and the window was all beautifully lit up. I went to this church when I was a child and through my young adult years. It is a huge window, and I cropped it down to the main motif. It has a lot of meaning for me, going back more than 50 years, my baptism there, my sister was married in the same sanctuary, I in the little chapel down from the main building.

It's funny about weddings, while everyone is looking at the bride & groom, I'm looking at the wedding photographer! And I'm thinking,how many shots are they taking, what type of camera are they using, and boy they better get that shot right!!

cameragirl59, that is funny about weddings and your watching the photog. I would, too, now. I had not been to a formal wedding for I can't remember how long, always made me sad after my divorce, just one little informal one several years ago, so I had forgotten just what all goes on. I also have a thing about crowds (have trouble in stores unless I have to go), and have avoided them for years, the camera is helping me overcome some of that.

I see we are up to V already, and I have been so busy trying to catch up and too much gabbing as usual, I haven't even looked at the other U's yet.
