Avatar? Okay for a Ten Year Old

to see? Noticed that it was rated PG-13, which can be okay, or it can be "Debbie Does Dallas" material! LOL (Not that I've ever SEEN that, of course! LOL

Anybody have an opinion in Avatar?

It's a great movie, and for most 10 yr olds who are into car chases and other violent movies, this isn't nearly as bad. If your 10 yr old is very sheltered and extremely sensitive, maybe not, but I still think it will be fine.

Bless My Bloomers (I love that nick), I also use lots of pots, pots here and there, pots are everywhere, in the pool area, haning from the sheppard's hook, on the trellis and on the fence. I too have at least 30 clematis wines. My best find this year was a clemie Royalty, I bought the previous year a fanastic huge pot for %25. down from 150 (I love Loblaws) and put the Royalty ther together with various perennials and annual. The clemie is still blooming, it blooms with double flowers on the old wood and singles on the new bloom. This is the best container combo I have ver created, I think I will just put it in the garage and overwinter it as is.

Oh, do I ever feel for you! Gabby's got a great amount of good advice. ALso try to think ahead, as in, what happens next.... You and your sister and anyone else you can bring into this, all need to be on the same page. I moved my (then) 92 yr old Mother from Arizona to CA a few years ago, and into one of the those dreaded senior complexes just a few miles from my home. She just passed away in December, but I had the priveledge of being with her often in her last years. What I learned is that things start going down hill. Every time an elder faces an illness or any set-back, the recovery is never 100%, they always seem to be a little less than they were before. I found that I had to become the "parent" in our relationship, and really make some hard decisions. It might be like an intervention, but you and your sister, and your grandmother's pastor or friends might need to confront her (gently of course) about making this change in her life. I was driving down to Scottsdale (725 miles) every month before i moved Mother close to me. In the last 3-1/2 years, we were able to enjoy lunches out or at the dining room of her complex. I could take her to the doctor, or shopping, and I was able to be there in 20 minutes when there was an emergency. Which there was, more and more often. You also need to consider legal matters, from her property. will, a trust, powers of attorney, and medical matters. So she takes a fall at home. Does she have a "Do Not Resusitate" order inplace? Does she want to be kept alive by any and all means? Who signs the papers when she's taken to the hospital if she cannot? Who talks to the doctor if she has a stroke and cannot talk? Did you know that you need to have her permission on file with her doctor for the doctor to talk to you? Who is prepared to make all those decisions? Can you or your sister write and sign a check to pay her bills if she cannot do so? All matters to be considered. Bless you for being there for her. She'll need you more and more as time goes by. You guys are awesome. Thanks so much for all the tips. The latest: We went up last night to look at it. I couldn't wait for the weekend. To my undiscerning eye, the thing looked old, but not wrecked, if that makes sense. Nothing cracked, nothing uneven - just worn in places. It is on not an entirely closed base, but a base enclosed at the left and right, so it is not on the open-four-leg base that the manual shows. Blade height adjustment and tilt adjustment seemed to work perfectly. The blade (included) felt solid in its mounting and the table felt solid, too. The only hiccup was that the original fence had lost its clamping ability, making it virtually useless. That's okay though as I was planning on having us buy a better after-market fence anyway. (Biesemeyer(sp?) the ultimate perhaps? My BIL likes to laugh at this girl who even knows what a Biesemeyer fence is!) It came with the normal miter gauge thingy and then he threw in a heavier iron one. The seller had downloaded and printed out the manual for us. The manual also mentions replacing the belt, so it must be belt-driven (although I do admit we didn't look up under the base to check). His asking price was $100, but knocked off $20 for the broken fence. $80 for something ten-years old but lightyears better than the ten-year old Shopcraft that we inherited that we've never could use because it looked like it was built by Playskool. (Sorry Shopcraft) Needless to say, we bought it. Now, help me "trick it out." I need recommendations on cleaning it, on accessories (fences, extensions, blades for fine plywood work, dado blades, safety, books). I think I've seen a moblle base for it, but not sure how DH wants to handle putting it into the shop. (Which we haven't started building yet.) I'd like to keep it stationary and build support around it. Your information and assistance is always appreciated! Sherry.

I'm off to the First Night celebration in Monterey. One of my favorite bands is going to play this year. Don't know how well I'll do with my hearing out in one ear but I'm going anyway. I used to hate traditional News Year Eve celebrations. I'd have to be running a fever to miss First Night. First Nights are held throughout the country. WE WENT AND SAW IT AND IT WAS GREAT!!!!IT HAD A LOT OF WORDS IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN BUT IT WAS GOOD!!!!WE WERE GOING TO SEE ALICE IN WONDERLAND BUT IT WAS ONLY IN 2D SO WE WERE GOING TO WAIT AND SEE IT IN 3D!!!! The movie, "Avatar", is a must in 3D. Its raises the bar for animated movies!

It is science fiction and should not give any 10 yr old a problem unless he/she are prone to nightmares, or has trouble separating fiction from reality. The military and corporate greed are cast in bad light, at least the ones in this story. Those turn out to be the baddies.

There are scenes of shoot-em-ups and wanton destruction solely for the sake of the mining company. This would warrant the need for parental guidance. A love interest, first beginning as a mutual attraction plus the desire of a young paralized vetern's desire for a life with controllable limbs, does develop, but the portraial is suitable for the younger crowd.

I am so glad that you liked it. It's an amazing movie, in so many ways. But I'll admit to getting a little woozy with the 3-d and my fear of heights, so I slipped my glasses off a few times, and went to the restroom once, too. But that's an old-lay perspective. A 10-yr-old must have been transfixed!

The war scenes might frighten a five year old, but not the average ten year old. Spoken as a Mom-my kids used to go to the neighbors' house and watch VHS FreddIe Kruger movies. I saw Avatar and the 3D glasses hurt my nose-I have a bump and they rested right on it!

LOL I didn't realize that "the ten year old" had taken over my computer! LOL I'll explain to her about capital letters meaning hollering - sorry.

We both enjoyed the movie, although it did stretch out to be a little long.

I told her that I thought they could have done away with some of the cursing but I'm sure that it wasn't anything she hasn't heard before.

Special effects were amazing.
