Yes, she is a lovely little girl, and what pretty blue eyes!

Very pretty girl!

You mention the settings, I see that you used 1/60 for a shutter speed. That will pick up motion blur if the subject is moving and I am sure you know that kids never sit still. Sometimes motion blur is intended, most of the time it is not. If you are using the onboard flash kick up to 1/100.

great photo

A Princess for sure. Nice picture.

You are so right, very beautiful is a good title for this pic, she is beautiful.

valerie

Thanks again....she is a beauty!

Joe, how do you know what my settings are? I've never been able to figure out how people can look at a picture on line and know that! I didn't even know what my shutter speed was set to! LOL!

A very pretty little girl!

Nice photo of your little beauty. Try cropping the picture down to include just her face and part of the tiara. It could be a prize winner.

I just recently learned how to do this and never think to do it....thank you for the idea...it really does highlight her better!

I can see your exif, too, with an addon viewer I dl'ed, right click on the photos and scroll down to view EXIF, not every photo retains it.

She is a beautiful little girl, the photo could be a little sharper and colors are vivid but overall a little flat. DOF is too shallow for my taste, only her face is in focus, sometimes you might want that. Shooting aperture priority at f5.6 but then you will have to watch your shutter speed even more closely (your camera picked f3.5) for starters might get her whole head in focus. Joe was right about boosting the shutter speed, but don't turn up the ISO too high, this camera has bad noise, pretty good at ISO 200.

If you use the link, cancel the language pack. Most of it is in English. It was a little tricky to install, after struggling with it, it turned out to be a two-stage install, but I finally got it working, and it's very handy.

My son bought this camera last night, and we are going to have to figure it out. I'm going to check the menu for upping the contrast a bit and possibly the saturation one notch and see what that does.

Here is a link that might be useful: View EXIF

Thank you Aliska! I don't have time to check out the link now...but I will this evening! What is DOF? I know this is probably a lame question....but I'm just learning! You really are very helpful!

Your son got the Sony H5 last night? He's gonna love it!

I didn't sleep very well wondering if I'd given my son a bum steer, am worried about only two batteries and that large, bright lcd gobbling up power. I'm going to see if we can turn down the brightness of the lcd, like the histogram feature you can turn on.

I looked at some sample photos, and am guessing they are all shot in aperture priority. Can't link to the site, rules. I noticed that none of their samples were at 3.5. Sweet spot for that lens seems to be f4 (lots of landscapes in that), also f4.5 and f5.6. Noticed two head shots at f3.7, nice baby closeup at f4, one closeup with noise at f2.8 (wide open), high ISO, 800, noise. The bulk of the photos were shot at f4, f4.5 and f5.6, so those must be the magic numbers for that Carl Zeiss lens (a fine one).

Also noticed for some of the sharpest shots in sunshine, ISO 80. I will not be pushing that camera higher than ISO 400 unless I get Noise Ninja Pro and have no idea how effective that is. I thought I read something about noise reduction, but sometimes it is at the expense of image quality. This is all on my son's behalf, I don't plan on using the camera for myself.

Try practicing in aperture priority rather than one of the programmed modes and see what happens. You choose the aperture, the camera will automatically pick the shutter speed for you, works great in good light. In low light you will have to fight it to get fast enough shutter speeds.

The easiest way I can explain DOF (depth of field) is how much of your photo will be in focus and how much will be blurred. Generally the smaller the f number, the larger aperture, shallower dof. Shallow dof means more blur, less in focus.

f4 seems to be a magic number for that lens in good sunlight so if you focus on something in the distance, everything is in focus as you would usually want it for landscape shots. That's where cameras differ. I usually use f8 and higher for landscape shots on my 20D but was getting good results at f4 with my Olympus p&s.

Have a good trip and will be watching to hear how you are doing when you get back!

What a lovely girl picture!!
