for you people who like to take pictures of the moon

Get your cameras out! The moon is closer to the earth right now so it *might* seem bigger than normal, however most of the time it is just an optical illusion. It was full last night, even had a partial eclipse of some sort, full moons are around at maximum two nights, but usually one.

For the people that will correct my information, I am not claiming to be knowledgable in astrophysics. I just heard something on the news last night and it rekindled my memories of 5th grade science class.

So get outiside and have your neighbors puzzled - "Why are they outside taking pictures in the middle of the night?"

I am very aware of the full moon. At five a.m. this morning I was awakened by my neighbors dogs howling so I got up to see what they were howling about and all I saw was the full moon. Apparently they were howling at the moon. They quieted down in just a few minutes and I heard them no more.

As I took the photos last night of the moon, the coyotes started up several times with their howling, how neat it is to hear them bark, yap, and howl.

You are correct about the two-day full moon appearance, but I will add that the moon increases toward full moon. At some point, it reaches 'full', then begins it's decline back to new moon, so actually it is only full for one short period of time, but appears to be full for a total of a couple of days before it is noticeably showing signs of Earth's shadow again.

This moon is known as the Harvest Moon, since it is when harvesting takes place and in years past, particularly when harvesting was done by hand, harvesting could be done all night long, by the light of the moon, hence the name...Harvest Moon.

Out here in the country, most people stay outside late into the night, especially on weekends, so it might be more strange to NOT find someone outside than to actually find someone outside. Stargazing is a part of country life, I guess, but with encroaching city lights and people moving from the city to the country and putting up bright lights that stay on all night, it is becoming harder to find a good spot to really see the beauty of the night sky.

I'd probably hesitate a moment or two if the rose name evoked a negative reaction. And the marketers are aware of this. They don't want to have a namesake which most people would avoid. For example, years ago there was a cute lil' rose bush named after someone in the royal British family. "Fergie" to be exact. Welllll, soon after the introduction of that rose the real Fergie was photographed poolside while having her toes sucked by someone (not her husband). Needless to say this created a hubbub in the news and a somewhat negative association with the rose shrub. The marketers quickly changed the name of the shrub to "Sunseeker". That cracks me up every time I think of it. But while we have grown accustomed to the names of our roses, non-rose fanatics are simply unaware and my friends find it wildly amusing when I say something like, "That's George Burns! Isn't he looking good this year?" What IS in a name anyway? My last name is Butcher and it's prevented me from seeking employment as a baby sitter, veterinarian or even a medical examiner. But it is a great name for a hockey player.

Greetz ain't no suhweet deeesh, it's savuhree! I've pinched a "shrimp n' grits" recipe off of the web when it made rounds on the food shows and was happy with the one I got, however, to be honest, that isn't what I'm talking about. No casseroles, no funky jazzed up jellies or sugar!?! Hell, if your puttin' jelly on your grits it's no wonder you don't like it! lol A little stab at humor there (terribly lame) but the point is made. Cream of wheat (farina?) and oat meal are sweetened dishes and, as far as I'm concerned, breakfast dishes alone. Grits, for the most part, are made with dairy products around here. Butter, cream, milk and cheese. It can make the dinner table but admittedly not often around my house. Oh no, I previewed and can't scroll up to see who said we should start our grits in COLD water (or milk or half & half). YES, you're right! I believe that this insane notion of tossing grits into boiling water must have come from that instant grits syndicate they cranked up somewhere up north! I think you also said you must salt the water (much like you would salt for pasta I might add) in order to pull out the full flavor of the hominy.. YES, again. It's not magic and hopefully it's understood that I'm kidding that one HAS to like grits. On the flip side of the coin I dang well know that most people have never really sat down to a breakfast of fresh, creamy grits. I am giggling just a little bit that the grits post attracted this many opinions.

Thanks for the comments. I learned my lesson from the past neighbors that you don't just talk to people like this, you have to take a stand right away. The last ones dropped a tree onto my house and tried to sneak it away before I got home. But footprints in the snow caught my eye. I don't believe in silly oxymorons like "passive aggressive". If you allow it, you condone their actions and actually acquiesce to their abuse. Better to be clear upfront rather than talk in cases like this. I don't understand people who have an 80' wide lot and feel they need to put their stuff on, and use their neighbors' property. It would have been easier for them to park their stuff on their own than to move it onto mine. I have to suspect it's their attempt at a claim. Been through that before too and said never again. To quote Barney Fife "Nip it... nip it in the bud!" :) And sleeperblues, you clearly didn't read what I said. I didn't have time to go and talk at that time anyway, but thanks for your comment.
