I have fun growing them every year, heaving honey bees for 4 years now, makes me grow even more.

...

They are a good pollen source for all kinds of bees.

..

And butterfly

..

And birds love it too

Wow. Good stuff Konrad. I've never seen a sunflower "pic" tell a story before. Birds and bees, sun, butterfly - look at me, this is my day!

Neat job. Thanks for sharing.

Here's a quick list off the top of my head: petunias, dahlias, sunflowers, smaller roses, marigolds, lavender, verbena, lilies, geranium, calibrachoa. It would help if I knew if you wanted annuals or perennials, and what look you are going for. Best advice is just to peruse Home Depot and see what they have on hand

Clematis for part shade... please see link. I have a marvelous arbor (custom built, redwood) with a bench underneath. While I agree that it stands very well on its own, I won't be sitting there much until I get a vine to cover it so I can have some more shade. :) Be sure to check on the ultimate height of your chosen clematis; this can vary a lot. Check laspilitas.com and see if you can get a CA native! Some are loved by hummingbirds. Here is a link that might be useful: part shade clematis

Clematis with no doubt, just make sure You get a plant that's at least 2 yrs, it is still gonna take a couple of years to perform it's best but at least you see blooms meanwhile. I can't post names of nurseries, spike won't let me, but look for hallsons in michigan.. klk

These are wonderful, every one of them!! The one with the butterfly is very "fetching" but the golden finches are amazing, especially because the one has a morsel in it's beak!
I love sunflowers but don't grow them anymore because my friends, the deer, eat them all!
Was wondering if I could save a few of these?

Great pics! We grew them too, and it seems like there is a bee on everyone of them. Starting to dry up now, and the finches are going after the seed.
