Fruit in canidae as well! Yes I love canidae, but just as of late my pup has grown a bit tired of it (super healthy, etc etc) So I stopped by and picked up a smal bag of ur Wellness Super 5 mix, and she loved that!! So I figure I will give her that for awhile and go back to Canidae!! I love canidae, top quality feed (among others) I discussed "feed" with the owner of a small pet shop, For the most part, all he sells is the top quality feed, and according to him when it comes to the top quality feed, they are all extremely close in quality, so what really matters is if your dog (or cat) will eat it!!

I used to feed my dogs Wellness for years and they did very well on it, the only reason we switched to canadae was that wellness kibble was just a tad to large for my small dogs.
I highly recommend either food.

I tried Wellness when I first got my dog but he would have nothing to do with it. Has anyone else had that experience?

Thank you all for your replies. I think my dogs would like it...as far as doing well on it, why wouldn't they? They don't have allergies or any particular ailments.

I'M A DOG! (I know it states this is for people to post about pets, and not to let pets post! But I hope they will make an exception here.)
I still don't get it. Why do my human family get to eat something different almost every single night, but they still feed ME the same old dry food stuff - day after day, night after night?
They know that my senses (especially my smell) are way more sensitive. They try to trick me sometimes by putting me outside. But, I know what's going on.
I wish I could speak the human language - 'cuz I'd certainly have something to say! It's just not fair.
I wonder what my human family would do if they ONLY had a certain food that they had to eat every single day of their lives - breakfast, lunch, dinner.
I need some varity in my life! This dry food is good for awhile, but, darn! I need a change once in awhile!

Oh here we go. Someone's itching to debate raw diets.

Hey you know something if you want to claim that dogs eat raw food in the wild, how much of a variety do you think they have in the wild? Ugh... rats again? But we had that last night!

As for why wouldn't a dog do well on it...
That's just the way it goes sometimes. Sometimes they seem to like the food and just not do too well on it, loose stools etc.

There can be price differences even within a single brand of dog or cat food, depending on the ingredients. The place I work at is not a pet store exclusively, it's more of a side line, but we do sell some of the premium brands of pet food. One of the brands varies by as much as $10 for the same size bag. The venison is the most expensive, while the beef and the chicken flavors are less expensive. With the cat food, there's not as much of a difference, but some of the flavors are more and some are less. So, it makes comparison shopping a bit tricky.

As long as you're feeding the premium brands, I don't think there's anything wrong with switching around the different brands. Buy Wellness one time, then Canidae, then something else, or go back to Wellness. They are all very good brands, and I don't think it would hurt your dog to switch from time to time.

I agree with Sally about switching dog foods. Variety is good for them. What I do and many may not agree with this, is to buy 3 kinds (I rotate between Natural Balance, Eagle Pack Holistic, Canidae, Wysong, Solid Gold Holistic Blendz) and mix them. I top off the mix with either N-R-G (a dehydrated food), table scraps, hard boiled eggs, salmon oil, yogurt, veggies and so on. It works for me. I don't believe that any one food fed all the time is ideal. Do I have scientific evidence that what I am going is good for my dogs? Nope, but I do have happy, healthy dogs with gorgeous coats.
You need to find what works for your dog. Be aware that if they get hot spots, flaky skin and other ailments, to remember to reevaluate the food. I found out that my old girl is allergic to lamb the hard way. It took me a while to figure it out but now that I know, I stay away from the lamb and she is a lot happier and more comfortable.
By the way, if you decide to supplement your dog, remember that onions, grapes, raisins, chocolate and macadamia nuts are not good for them. Egg whites also need to be cooked.
