This is my first year being a Florida snowbird, and I am appalled at the $8 it costs to park your car at the beach. Does anyone here know if there is a pass for seniors or veterans? That seems outrageous to have to pay that.

wow, what beach is that at? We park free at Sunsplash park at Daytona Beach, and some other beach lots. Driving on the beach does cost $5.00, I think, though you take a chance on getting stuck.

I live here and all the beaches are free where I live.
Now when I lived in Massachusetts it cost $10 to park at the nice beaches on Cape Ann.

I loved the tour. Your camera works great too. Are you going to live there year round? I loved the lattice boards around the porch too. DS's put them all around my chain link fence a couple of years ago and they really look nice. And what a treat to see that crane visiting.. thanks so much for sharing!!

Fixer: I think you doubt my statement about saving $6K a month rental in South Maui. When you say you found some rentals "in Hawaii", that covers a lot of ground! There are rentals in some locations in Hawaii in some seasons for even less than the $600/wk you quote, and there can be a discount for more than 28 nights. We are 'a few palm trees' from Wailea in South Kihei, across from Kamaole III beach park. The smallest (1 BR 2 Bath) ocean view units at our complex run over $200/night January through mid-April. Taxes add 13.42% We pay neither rent nor rental tax to stay in our own place. It's also great to know we won't be disappointed. We've rented our share of pricey condos in Hawaii -- and elsewhere -- that turned out to be pretty 'bare bones'!

Ain't never been south of PA in this area, IA futher west, and LA on West Coast. Sis, born ON, moved to SK as a pre-teen, spent most of life in SK, had a trailer in Mesa for a time, met an older man (she ain't no spring chicken herself) down there, they built a relationship, she moved from Vanc. Island back to Sask., now lives near my brother (recently retired farmer) and her man-friend - who still has a trailer in Mesa. My ex (an Iowa girl - who left as a teen) had been head dietitian of a psych. hosp. here in London, Ontario, used to spend late Dec. - mid March travelling FL - TX, sometimes AZ when our daughter lived there, in her motor home. Retired early, as they were talking of closing her hosp or a similar one only 15 or so mi. away so she felt that taking the golden handshake rather than waiting for a severance package might be best. She fed millions during her 25 year career, died a year and a quarter ago, ironically it was her gut that did her in. At age 66. Kids said at the time that, had Mom retired at usual time, she'd have had less than a year, and I commented that she'd have been sick for more than half of that. As it was, she had 10 years to carry on her hobbies (miniatures, needlework, etc.), visit friends, travel in winter and generally have a ball. Kids have spent over a year sorting and clearing out the home, gave a good deal of the furniture to their cousin who recently moved Sask. - Ont. to pursue a career in music (he hopes). House sold a couple of weeks ago, we had wind-up dinner last night. Hope you all enjoy each day as it comes. ole joyful

In New York, companies that usually supply meat and produce to some of the city's best restaurants are now accepting and delivering orders to the public. I just ordered a pork roast, a whole chicken and a hanger steak to be delivered in a few days by Piccinini Bros. and the prices were really reasonable. This seems to be working well for these suppliers, another one is mostly sold out. I also placed an order with Misfit Market for produce to be delivered on Monday and every two weeks thereafter. I've never used them before, I'm curious to see how it works out. So I should be set for a while with these two options. I have plenty of rice and beans!

WHERE in FL are you? When we lived in NE FL (Jax area) all 15 beaches within 90 mins. of us were free parking except Vilano & Anastasia (both in St. Augustine)& Guano north of Vilano. But Vilano had a huge free parking lot and then you could just walk onto the beach (had to pay to drive/park on the beach.) Anastasia & Guano are state parks.

We are renting a place in Bonita Springs. ALL beaches here charge that, unless u r staying at a hotel on the beach, which, if u were, u could afford to pay that.

Try calling city hall. They might have a beach pass you could purchase for the time you are here. Wonder what the locals do?

I live in Panama City Florida and the locals do not go to the beach! There is no parking for the locals. If you are not staying in a condo or motel there is NO parking for the beach. I drive over to Mexico Beach, about 30 minutes away just before Port St. Joe Florida. It is a nicer beach, not a lot of people and the beach is litter free, drunk college student free and just a nicer beach. Oh...and it is free to park there on side the road in areas marked and they have a big parking lot just for beach goers.

I, too, live in Panama City Beach, Fl. - I don't have the same experience as Debn - I find parking free anytime I go, and I go often.
