New Here... introduction

Hello- I am new to the photography forum. I have been dabbling in photography for a few years, mostly just pictures of my children, but lately I try to incorporate my love of nature with portraits of my kids.

I have no formal training, but dream of being able to sell my work someday.

I would like to share some of what I have created here, but does everyone copyright their images before posting? I'd be afraid of people stealing my stuff!

Copyright is automatic..whether people respect that is something else.
You would have to make a filing of copyright to enable you to take any legal action.
You could watermark your pictures before posting.
Although the watermark can be removed with a little effort.
Bottom line...if you don't want them stolen, don't post them.

Just don't post your first pictures of Brad and Angelina's twins and you should be okay. All joking aside, I wouldn't post something on a public board that I didn't want others to feel free having. I suggest you do the same. If you don't like the idea of someone pretending that your pictures are theirs, watermark them. You can also embed metadata into a .jpg file if you ever need to prove ownership.

home depot, lowes, notta. i'm in a very small town and the closest thing to me is a wally world. everything else is at least 70 miles away in the 1st city. i've looked on ebay, some of the prices there are pretty good until they add the shipping and that is outta this world. i don't understand why they charge so much for such small plants. a $3 plant ends up be $ 12-18 after adding shipping. I just can't afford all that. lol but thanks for sharing your ideas. someone mentioned about having a 99 cent store near them. i've never even heard of that kind of store. i wish we had one here. thanks again, miss daisy

Awesome! That was fun, Christian. I 'll expect to see chickens following you all over the place in the next one, though. Unless, of course, the gators get them. Do you have gators in that waterway or is it seawater and not just brackish? I'm going to make a couple of suggestions, if that's okay. Turf grass can be a real problem for trees planted in a lawn. Not only do the grass plants compete (very successfully) for water and dissolved nutrients, they also want to hog all of the rhizosphere. Many turf grass species win these underground battles with allelopathic chemicals. I would encourage you to remove a very generous circle of sod from under the trees...extending as far beyond the drip line as you are willing to give to the trees. Replace the sod with 2 to 3 inches of bark mulch, making sure that you don't pile any against the trunk. One of the single most beneficial things we can all do for trees of any kind is to replace grass with mulch. If you'd like more information about that, let me know. I'm also wondering about the staking on one tree, and concerned about how tight the tape seems to be. The tape needs to be removed PDQ and hopefully the tree doesn't need to be staked. I didn't see a sign of any pest problems on any of your trees...everybody will want you to share your ideas and experiences. How long have some of these trees been in the ground?

Like it too. How did I miss this thread and only because I browsed to the second page did I find it. Have I been sleeping at the wheel? But it is really pretty to see a blue-green center with the creamy margin so wide. I will have to look at my small young Half And Half which has similar coloring I think. I dearly love a deep blue-green. And Don_R, I'll have to show you my Rhino Hide, how it is standing tall after so many days of heavy rain. A joy to have it finally.

As PK pointed out, late spring through summer is not the best time to plant perennials, since the heat index maximizes transplantation shock. Big box garden centers rely on impulse buy to sell their plants, so their perennials will be available when they're in bloom, which is rarely the right time to plant them. Perennials planted in the fall after the temperature drops below blast furnace levels have a much easier time becoming established. Since Lowe's and HD don't carry visually drab rosettes, you'll want to visit a reputable mom & pop's nursery. The exceptions to fall planting are marginally hardy perennials that are best planted in early spring after the risk of frost has passed. As a rule of thumb, group plants by exposure, soil and irrigation. KO roses, hibiscus and exotic daisies perform best with full sun, improved soil and supplemental watering. Butterfly weed (not butterfly bush) and most salvias do well with full sun, native soil and local rainfall. Turk's cap and shrimp plant are ideal for full shade, native soil and local rainfall. Pigeonberry and rock rose prefer morning sun and afternoon shade; they'll look better with improved soil and even moisture, though neither is necessary. Once you've separated the perennials that need supplemental water from those that don't, you can route your drip line(s) accordingly; i.e., there's no need to waste irrigation water on tough customers like Salvia greggii, while hibiscus won't survive without it. Caveat: I've never lived in DFW, so take the above species with a grain of salt until someone from your area approves/disapproves them.

Hi Colorsofspring and welcomed....I have also heard if you reduce the size to 400-500, longest side...That if anybody wants to copy and enlarge it...it would be pixelated and not show good quality...

Than you all for your replies. Juanital, I had thought of reducing image size also- so thanks for confirming that.
Here goes... I have resized.

In all fairness if one is told to add data for protection one should also be told how easy it is to remove. And a simple Google search will give you the "how"
Irfanview offers a plug-in to do just that..for legitimate reasons... so I don't think i've given away any secret hand-shakes.
