Yep, that's how my husband died last April - he was 54! It is such a horrid disease - my husband went from 170 pounds to 130 pounds in less than three weeks! It was absolutely devastating to watch the progress of this cancer - he appeared to be healthy at Thanksgiving, started having abdomenal and shoulder pain, went to the doctor, went for CT scan - then, January 2, 2007, he was diagnosed with stage 4+ pancreatic cancer with secondary liver cancer. The love of my life died April 17, 2007.

That makes me so sad. I have always had a crush on him. And I love the fact that he and his wife dance together. He seems like such a solid guy.

Oh no, not him! This is awfully sad. I like him so much. He doesn't do a lot of movies, but I still like his work, And, I love that he stayed devoted to his wife for 33 years. Saw him on Oprah late last year and thought he looked rather gaunt, but a lot of people do around his age or shortly after.

Ok so I just found this article. Hopefully he will continue to respond well to treatment.

Patrick Swayze is remaining optimistic, despite his recent diagnosis with pancreatic cancer.

The actor's publicist released this statement Wednesday afternoon:

"Actor Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. Patrick's physician Dr. George Fisher states, 'Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far. All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic.' Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects. The outpouring of support and concern he has already received from the public is deeply appreciated by Patrick and his family."

That's very sad. Kay I'm sorry for your loss.

The link says his prognosis is better than other sources are reporting..so maybe they caught it in time?

He is one of my favorite actors.

I was just reading the English newspaper The Daily Mail on line and it has a much more somber outlook on the illness and says he has lost a lot of weight and is on a liquid diet.

How sad. Hope it's in the early stages. I've always liked him - what a talented guy.

I really hope his publicist's account is accurate and he might be able to recover from this. It brings back sad memories of actor Michael Landon announcing he had pancreatic cancer in April 1991, and dying only 3 months later.

Besides "Dirty Dancing", which I still watch, I loved Patrick in "TO WONG FOO, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING, JULIE NEWMAR" By CN1995 - this was such a funny and heartwarming movie - if you haven't seen it, by all means do! This was the last movie my Dear Husband and I watched together, while he was in the hospital the last time. It was our last laugh together.

This is terrible news, good luck to him fighting it. I'm the exact age as Patrick, 55.

So sorry to hear that, I really like him. I had a neighbor who took excellent care of herself, ate right, exercized, got pancreatic cancer at 67, died at 68. My own father died of cancer at 53. Horrible disease.

I just got off the phone with my SIL from California - her boss's mother was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She underwent the Whipple procedure and chemo, but it seems it didn't work - it has developed again and the prognosis is dismal for her.

I recently read that pancreatic cancer is quickly becoming the number one cause of death from cancer, surpassing lung cancer. It is being attributed, in part, to the stress people are under and their diet.

"Too Wong Foo..." was one of my favorite movies, too.

I do hope they caught Swayze's cancer early, but I've seen 2 people die from it, and it is one of the worst, nastiest cancers out there. It is often asymptomatic until nearly uncurable.

I hope and pray for the best outcome for him.

Patrick is one of my favorites.

I've lost 3 family members to pancreatic cancer and a good friend. All cancer is bad but pancreatic cancer is one of the most painful cancers to be diagnosed with.

I know most of you hav heard this all before but my Mom died of pancreatic cancer - I guess it was a blessing in disguise she had Alzheimer's Disease because she didn't acknowledge the pain she was in and I only found out after she went into a diabetic coma and rushed to the hospital and after the endocrinologist did further testing to find out why she had such high blood sugar that they found the cancer but it had already spread to her liver. When I told the Doctor she never showed any pain or discomfort he said it was because of the Alzheimer's Disease. I had to learn how to give her isulin shots to regulate her blood and because of the Alzheimer's Disease I decided not to allow any invasive procedures and I would continue caring for her at home until she died. Mom passed away 3 months later in my arms.

I wish Patick Swayze the best.

I lost my Dad to pancreatic cancer in 1995. The Dr told us that once there are symptms it's too late. They told us he had 6 months, well it was less than 3 weeks. Dad would have been 90 on March 4.

I wish Patrick the best with his treatment.

Patric Swayze has always seemed to be a classy guy. I've never heard of any trouble he has been in and married for a long time to the same gal. I truly hope they caught it early and he can beat this awful disease. Loved him in Dirty Dancing. Dottie

DH didn't sleep well at all last night with his abdominal pain. Then he heard the news about Patrick Swayze this morning before he left for work. We should get the results of his CT scan and blood tests today. He is terribly concerned...despite my efforts to reassure him.

I, too, love Swayze. I get chills everyt time I watch Ghost.

Patrick Swayze is a very good friend to a Rancher here in my small town. He purchased his Arabian Horses here. One of his horses got out on the Interstate and caused a traffic jam. This was about 10 years ago.

I am so hoping for his recovery. It is said that he is a very kind person.

I am also sorry for Patrick Swayze and his family, and hope that he will be able to beat this horrible disease.

One of my uncles had pancreatic cancer and was one of the lucky ones, he survived. He was about 54 at the time, had surgery and chemo treatments at M D Anderson in Houston. It was a hard battle for him, but he finally beat the dreadful disease, and has been cancer free for 10 years.

I read about him this morning before going to work. I was so sad to read it. He is one of my favorites. Great dancer, good looking, and married to the same woman for over 30 years I believe. My condolences to you also Kay on the loss of your husband. NancyLouise

Kay, I am so sorry, this is such a horrible disease, my nephew is supposed to have his surgery next week, they have had to postpone several times. I will keep you and everyone facing this now in my thoughts.

Pancreatic cancer is aggressive and usually terminal- no matter how early they find it. My dad was in his late 70's when diagnosed. He lived 4 months with excrutiating pain until thankfully he passed on. It's funny, he had never been a religious man/christian, though he did believe in God. The pastor from our church came to visit him many times during his illness. The day after he finally accepted Jesus as his savior, he died quietly at home. Pancreatic cancer has also taken the lives of a few of our close friends, some in their early 30's. I agree that we hear of pancreatic cancer being more prevalent now... or maybe we're just hearing more about it now. Terrible disease.

Orie is completely correct - even if someone survives this horrid cancer, they very rarely live 5 years, and those 5 years are 5 years of excruciating abdominal pain.

My Dear Husband didn't want to live, (his words), if it meant living with this severe pain.

I am really hoping they can do something for Mr. Swayze, but I have my doubts.

Sad to say, but he will probably be dead within 8 months.

LOVED Dirty Dancing... he was wonderful in that!

So sad..everyone that I know who had pancreatic cancer has died with in a year. Their time has been filled with terrible pain, and the end was a blessing for them.
There is a link between smoking and this cancer, but no other solid studies about why it is becoming more common.
Everyone needs hope, but I wonder why they give pancreatic cancer patients such false hope? The odds are so bad..

Of all the cancers, pancreatic seems to be the deadliest one and the most quick (3-4 months). I suppose that can be a blessing that the pain is short, but hard nonetheless.

I hope Patrick can overcome the odds, but unfortunately cancer doesn't discriminate. I do know one man that survived Pan. cancer, but I've loss touch with the family, so I do'nt know how he is doing these days?
