If your old engine blew a lot of oil into the muffler, and you put that muffler on the new engine, you will continue to smoke until you burn all oil out of the muffler. The fact that muffler continues to smoke after shutdown tells me that you have gotten oil in muffler hot and that's why it smokes. If new engine runs generally OK (doesn't miss at high speeds, and accelerates smoothly from idle when you goose the throttle), I'd suggest you let mower run for thirty minutes or so to burn all oil out of muffler.

I may yet have to go back in it. Just before I put it up it seemed like there was slight intermittent squeak or squeal. It could be nothing but I would hate to ignore it and then find that a piece of debris got under the rod journal or the mag end bushing. I did not remove the rod or crankshaft but I did wash out the block with break cleaner. I did cover everything with fresh oil after washing. It may be a good idea to see how my camshaft modification worked out anyway. The slinger/governor was in pretty bad shape, not bent to bad to work, but bad enough that it was obvious when you looked at it. Ironically, two years ago I tore it down and put new rings in, and although it ran good it was always mechanically louder than before. This time it seemed a lot quieter. Do not know why.

D.D.Blanchard magnolia in S.E. Chester County, PA?

I just got one and planted it today. My local nursery has had them, so they have been on my list for two years now. She said that they have sold many of them, and over the years had only one that they had to replace. That one was planted in the fall. (no time to heel in?) She said in an especially hard winter they will lose their leaves and new growth will be retarded for the year. To me that is an acceptable price for a large broadleaf evergreen tree. I love the large deep green glossy leaves, with cinnamon undersides. Magnolia blossoms would just be a bonus. HI! my first post at Garden Web!

Manual compression release to replace failed B&S Camshaft C.R.?

Hello...........I just ran across this statement. I realize the statement is 4 years old............but I'm hoping "dsbird" or someone else might have an answer to my question. I too, have a problem with my Intek not wanting to make it past "compression," and I was looking for a "work around" when I ran across this. "dsbird" states that "I torqued it up a bit tighter to avoid gasket blow-out," and I was wondering if someone might advise me as to how much "tighter" to go as I try this "double head gasket" manuver to see if it will work for me as well ? Thank you : )

O- Oblivious

P- POW flag
**history - 48 Star Flag, this flag was made by Paul Spain and two other inmates in a Japanese POW camp. Just before capture, Paul Spain was given the "honor" of destroying the national colors in order to keep them from falling into enemy hands. Before burning the flag Spain and others cut out 48 Stars and they managed to hide them for three and a half years. They cut red, white and blue stripes from Allied parachutes used to drop food into their POW camp. They used a nail as a needle to construct the flag and used it to greet their liberators.
