Would this be too much to ask?

IN my learnig process, reading your post and seeing all your pictures I was wondering if you could post an interesting picture where you tried a technique that worked, then tell me how you did it and what kind of camera you have?...I am interested in lighting, close ups and macro.

These I took with my old camera (Olympus C4000Z) back in April 2003. The first one was in super macro mode and I think I stabilized the camera by resting it tilted on the ground and got lucky it didn't blur.

The second one is a twig of apricot blossoms on my tree. Someone taught me how to do this. Same camera as above, set aperture priority, f4, turn on regular macro button, zoom (can't get as close with this technique but it works very well). I never shot super macro since.

No flash, just natural light on both.

I like both but I think I like the bottom the best because it is less common to me.

I've been gardening my whole life and even I have grown tomatoes that tasted worse than what you can buy in the store. I don't think it's the seedlings fault, I think flavor depends a lot on the weather while the fruit is ripening and soil nutrition (they need medium to weak soil, not super rich). The biggest problem with mass market seedlings is that often what the tag says is not what you'll end up with. Shop for healthy seedlings or start your own under florescent lamps - it is way easier but not necessarily cheaper. Some tomato varieties can take cooler weather (Stupice is my favorite) but few peppers will so you would better off waiting a few more weeks before you start your seeds and grow them up together. Only if we have a very early Spring will you have tasty early tomatoes - just because they might fruit early doesn't mean they will taste good. They taste best when we have warm days (not too hot) and cool nights. When the night time lows get above a certain temp the flavor doesn't show up as strong and often the fruit fail to ripen (thats why a lot of tom's fruit best before August and after the second week in Sept). There is always rush to be the first person with a ripe tomato in the garden but the best flavor happens later and many times you'll see early started plants and late started plants looking the same when the true tomato season starts.

Yah, I love cutting "Unforgettable" with that song crooning thru my brain. And I must mention, that the plant is a blooming machine, earlish, good+ tuber maker. It's a lovely clear white, outstanding ball form, the lavender edges are darned good at disquising bug chews, too. Another favorite is a pink one that I call 'baby girl pink', the name escapes me at the moment. Same attributes as "Unforgettable." Wait !! It's "Maltby Pearl".

I am still thinking so this is not my answer. What annuals have you been buying? A fellow like you could grow them cheaper yourself. I buy plants I could grow myself too but I am more impulsive than you. Annuals bloom their heads off in the heat of summer and many have long bloom times. Most of my perennials bloom and then are done. Some will rebloom if deadheaded. You have shade. I can't at the moment think of a yellow and white theme for most of the summer. I think foliage plants would provide the most attractive display for the longest time. Heucheras are foliage plants not yellow and white and they look better in spring. They are nice attractive plants. July and August are not the best months for them. Sun coleus are annuals in our climate, but I don't buy them every year. You can overwinter them on your basement window sill in plastic tubs and take cuttings in spring. Most bugs don't bother them. Besides needing water they are easy plants. There are some nice yellowish sun coleus but it is not short enough for you. Do you have any luck with hostas? My best ones are in pots and mid summer is not their best time either. I think Sandy has a shade garden so maybe she will think of something. It is not raining here and my plants don't look so good. I am trying to keep the squash bugs from killing my one squash plant that has survived and they are on my cucumber now. I planted too many tomatoes that need water which is in short supply. I hope someone thinks of something to help. We like to hear from you.

Would I want something from Group 1 - no pruning? It appears that the montana group would meet my needs, except the height looks like it might fall a little short. Any Ideas as to which one? Any color would work except blues (need to keep that hot color scheme). Any comments on Mrs. N. Thompson?

Well, I bought a new camera. A Nikon D50 and got the perfect sunset on the first night of my vacation. This is set on Auto Mode with a 200mm zoom lens.

How about a beautiful Assasin Bug. This was taken with my old Fuji FinePix, jus a simple point and shoot in Close Up mode.

These are all cameras that I would buy for myself.
Canon:

C8080

There are lots of good camera but I picked the P&S that I liked the most. This have been tested to have better lenses, better ISO performance and shoot in RAW format. I know this next comment may hit a nerve with some here but; Nikon, Sony, Fuji, Konica-Minotlta P&Ss all fall short of the ones listed. Not that they dont make good cameras, I just dont think they perform as well as the ones listed.

People post pictures from all models and they look excellent, the best way to make a picture look great is to learn how to use your camera.

You can do some nice things with cameras that no one would consider buying new. I often urge friends who want to start taking pictures to find something inexpensive on eBay until they decide what they really want. And how they want to use the camera. The rose closeup photo I shot (in the linked page above) was taken last year with an old old old Nikon Coolpix 2.1 - not many features but it still takes nice, sharp pictures and does a decent job on macros.

I try to stay out of the camera wars, but I had a terrible time choosing between the Nikon dlsr's and Canon. Nikon takes sharper photos out of the camera, I have seen many stunning photos, but the tiebreaker mainly was Canon has a better lineup of lenses that are a little cheaper, and less noise at higher ISO's.

I really like the Olympus 8080 if only it had more zoom and IS. A newspaper reporter uses it.

With point and shoot cameras, I have noticed that two many people don't push the envelope and learn techniques whereby they can get better quality photos, plus learning to process them afterwards is almost as important as capturing the photo.
