Yes, that's very similar to what I saw, mine were more overhead and most a little to my the left or south, parallel to the way a large river runs here, and it was evening, quite dark, five closer together, same general thing though. Mine looked a little more eerie reflected in either the diffused city light or moonlight. We have a smaller airport than Detroit, and these didn't seem to be on the flight path to that, but what do I know?

My guess is that it could have been some military overflight, and yes they are contrails, I'm sure.

Thanks for posting your photo. It's fascinating. At least you got one! I've got a couple but nothing like I saw that particular evening. I liked the big x in the eastern sky one sunny afternoon when I was coming home one day :-). Too lazy to dig it out and post it, oh heck it's a big photo day, will see if I can find it.

Oh, this is silly, took forever to find it. No big deal at all, just liked it for some reason. That camera sure took sharp photos right out of the camera, just resized by cropping.

Hard to take a picture of the sky nowadays without a contrail, it seems, even here in the boonies!
