I had one for a couple of summers when I lived in Lone Grove. I had never seen one before and thought it had escaped from somewhere the first time I saw it. If yours liked what it found to eat, it will probbly be back. We watched the feeder those two summers more than we have any other summer because he was so beautiful. I'm glad they are moving a little further north.

I, too, thought maybe it was someone's escaped pet...goes to show what I know, huh? Apparently they're on the decline...I wish I knew what to do to attract/keep them here.

What a beautiful bird!
I actually saw a peach-faced love bird or lory out at the barn last week! He was too wild to catch so I hope he adapts well.

Several years ago a male Painted Bunting bathed in the birdbath, but I haven't seen one since. See Indigo Buntings most summers--none yet this year. The last two years I saw both an Oriol and a Rosebreasted Grosbeak visit my feeder for a few days in the spring, but so far not this year either. The Goldfinches are now in their lovely black and yellow summer dress. And there is a phoebe nesting under the eave of the storage shed as there has been for almost every summer for 30 years. I love to watch the birds.

I have seen an oriole twice this Spring. I don't know if they stay here or just past thru, but I see 2 or 3 every year. If I could remember to slice an orange and put it out for them maybe I would see them more often. I tried a feeder but had it close to an entrance and the wasp and such would come inside when the door opened. I need to dig it out and find a place to mount it away from the house I guess.

Yes!! I've had Goldfinches at my feeder all winter - it's so nice to see them bright and beautiful again. I have never seen an Indigo Bunting, but they look like they'd be exciting to see, too. I remember years ago, when we had an apple tree it would be covered with Cedar Waxwings in the spring - when the tree blossomed and attracted insects. I really do enjoy watching all of the birds.

I do believe that you saw him. I see them a few times a year, and they do come to our yard to eat at the bird feeder or even to splash in the birdbath upon occasion.

The male painted bunting is the most beautiful bird I've seen in the wild here in Oklahoma, although it is pretty spectacular to see eagles too.

Congrats on the sighting. I hope he comes back to visit you again.

Years ago I lived at the lake view towers in OKC and the only bird that would fly to my floor and feeder was a male Painted Bunting.
I havn't seen one since.

I miss seeing the buntings and other birds we had when I was growing up in the country. But this week I've seen a pair of house/purple finches, a nighthawk of some sort, and a yellow crowned night heron.
