Does anyone else feel like this???

I love being sociable, having my friends and family over, but I love it even more when they go home.

As much as I love my friends and family, I find it very tiring with all the chit chat. Sometimes I feel I enjoy more just talking to them over the phone, that way I have control of when to say good-bye.

Is it just me?????

Uhhhh, I wish I hadn't gone outside this afternoon. I had only looked out the window and thought everything was ok until I went out to water and saw my butterfly bed. everything in there is wet and mushy. So sad. That is about all that bit the big one though. The other beds are all ok. Even my coleus. Crazy that it hurt everthing in the one bed so badly. I was sorry I forgot about my blackie sweet potatoe vine in there and the black eye susan vine that had just started blooming. I have had the sweet potato vine for a couple of years and its liquid now. My neighbor passed me over a couple pieces of his shrimp plant over the fence. I guess he saw the look on my face when I was just standing there holding the water hose and looking at the bed in shock. He said he knew I was sick when he didn't see me outside lately and his wife is sick too so maybe funky stuff going around. I hope I can root the shrimp plant. Its a pretty red one. It was nice of him to cheer me up with something new. I never did get my shrimp plant I wanted this year. I ordered a shrimp cocktail baby plant in the spring and it turned out to be a different plant, lol. I still have a couple seeds for the blue one I will try to get those to germinate in the spring. Never got around to planting them this year.

Yeah, I know what you mean -- August doldrums! What energy I still have is decimated by the need to harvest, blanch, freeze, can...oh, you know the drill! No time to worry about the small stuff like weeds -- and my poor flower beds are left to fend for themselves. Had a great crop of peas -- they loved the cool summer, and kept bearing and bearing -- Too much cold and wet for good tomatoes; constant wet invites wilt and other viruses. Squash and eggplant are my other failures this year. Have other gardeners in the area noticed a distinct lack of pollinators this year??? No honey bees, very few bumbles.... But carrots and parsnips and beets and beans, beans, beans! All doing very well! The hummers are attracted to the scarlet runners and keep them well pollinated! Potatoes are waiting to be dug, but they will store better in the ground until the end of September -- then whatever's left of the root crops go into the root cellar -- if I pile lots of leaves on the parsnips, they will overwinter in the ground, and provide our first spring veggies from the garden == sooo sweet with all that stored sugar!!!. Favorite crop this time of year? blueberries! Stick a quart container (the kind wonton soup comes in) in the freezer and toss in each day's picking (except what DH needs for his cereal!)By the end of August, we will (hopefully) have at least two containers full. The wet month has been good for the wild blackberries, too! Big, plump berries and lots of them! They get the same treatment. When the weather gets cooler, the frozen berries get dumped in a pot and it's jam time! Normally, there would already be several containers of raspberries waiting for their turn in the jam pot, but a combination of the wet and our neighborhood bear put paid to that crop! Have you ever seen what a bear can do to a raspberry patch in a single night! They like the tender new shoots (next year's berries, too!) as much as the berries, and literally strip the plants -- ripe berries, unripe berries, new leaves, all gone in a single night! Okay, I've blathered on long enough -- Veggies are my passion, can you tell???

I went thru that long ago. Wound up really blond with each addition of weave. I ended up having a brown weave put in to tone it down. Eventually I just went with brown with a few caramel highlights now and then. For me it is more flattering.

Lavender, I'm so glad to hear DH has moved to PT rehab. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that he's home for Christmas. It sounds like you're well on your way to having the house rearranged for his convenience and needs. Your reading corner is lovely--nothing I like better than to curl up with a good book and a cup of tea. Continued best wishes to you, DH, and your family. When you do your fairy tale kitchen, I definitely think you need to include a fairy door! Those are so cute!

I was thinking about that yesterday kind of.

Would you rather be the visitor, or the visitee? I usually love it when folks come to see me. I think I would rather be the visitee, but then I don't have that much company, and they are 'close' loved ones.

Maybe I just welcome having visitors because I live alone, and don't get out and go much anymore...no one lives very close it seems.

I do lots of phone visiting...either calling folks or them calling me.

When we first moved to our house, I loved having people over, whether just for dinner or for a weekend or more. But over the past few years, I've realized it's more of a pain in the rear than it's worth. Nobody I know reciprocates, so I'm the one doing all the work every time we see our friends. Even when we meet friends for a camping trip, I plan the meals, do the shopping, and prepare all the food to take along. Half the time they don't even eat what I've bought (and only pay me for what they do eat), so I throw out lots of stuff when we get home.

As far as neighbors and friends, I rarely invite anyone over. Most of the time they're too busy, and I get tired of asking. And don't get me started on people who don't RSVP to party invitations. I had enough of that too and don't have parties anymore.

I can handle the chit chat. In fact, that's about the only aspect of entertaining that I enjoy. It's the planning, shopping, cooking, and cleaning up that get to me.

My motto for houseguests: "When you arrive is up to you, but when you leave is up to me."

Glad I am not alone on this one.

Ihate it too when people do not RSVP. My daughter told me today that she was at a dinner party last night, the host was expecting 6 couples and only 3 showed up. No phone call from the other 3.

I really enjoy entertaining and having company, but I'm so exhausted when they leave because I over-plan every detail...even when close family and friends come over. Always want everything to be perfect and everyone to enjoy themselves. Maybe it's because I had more energy when I was younger!

I don't know why, but I have been finding it more exhausting the older I get. I use to love to visit and have people over, now it just wears me out. I have to take a nap afterwards. LOL

I much prefer to be the "visitor" rather than the "visitee." I get to leave when I'm done chatting, and I don't have to sweep the floor, or wash the dishes, or clean the toilet!

I used to love visting, but so sad, I was one who stayed too long, and no one was kind enough to say GO HOME!. Now I don't visit, or even want anyone here. Do my visiting at the Cafe, or at a social/church function.

I loce going to other peoples' houses, but not having them at my house. Kids get on my nerves. I'm always worried they'll get hurt or break something or annoy the dog. Once I had a birthday party for my daughter. It was summertime, so everyone was outside. My sister in law dropped a jar of mustard on the back stairs, it splattered all over, my nephew threw toys in the pool, stuff lodged in the filter, just everybody did something that irked me. I am glad when everyone leaves.

I like company, but because of my work schedule I rarely had any the past few years except the weekend before Christmas. Most of my friends work the same schedule I did so they don't have time either. My dd and grands live too far away to visit often. I do enjoy visiting with Bob's family when they stop by because they don't stay too long.

Now that I've retired I want to meet my retired friends at restaurants or go for a day of shopping or just looking at scenery and such. Bob doesn't feel well most of the time and has become a pretty cranky PITA. I don't mind it because I can ignore it, but I don't want my friends to be subjected to it. Besides, I like to get together and have some " girl " time without a man around.
