Does anyone else feel like this???

I love being sociable, having my friends and family over, but I love it even more when they go home.

As much as I love my friends and family, I find it very tiring with all the chit chat. Sometimes I feel I enjoy more just talking to them over the phone, that way I have control of when to say good-bye.

Is it just me?????

Uhhhh, I wish I hadn't gone outside this afternoon. I had only looked out the window and thought everything was ok until I went out to water and saw my butterfly bed. everything in there is wet and mushy. So sad. That is about all that bit the big one though. The other beds are all ok. Even my coleus. Crazy that it hurt everthing in the one bed so badly. I was sorry I forgot about my blackie sweet potatoe vine in there and the black eye susan vine that had just started blooming. I have had the sweet potato vine for a couple of years and its liquid now. My neighbor passed me over a couple pieces of his shrimp plant over the fence. I guess he saw the look on my face when I was just standing there holding the water hose and looking at the bed in shock. He said he knew I was sick when he didn't see me outside lately and his wife is sick too so maybe funky stuff going around. I hope I can root the shrimp plant. Its a pretty red one. It was nice of him to cheer me up with something new. I never did get my shrimp plant I wanted this year. I ordered a shrimp cocktail baby plant in the spring and it turned out to be a different plant, lol. I still have a couple seeds for the blue one I will try to get those to germinate in the spring. Never got around to planting them this year.

I think I know what you mean - I generally think of it as having the proper perspective on life. I got a whole lot of it last September when my father (and best friend) passed away rather suddenly at the age of 65. If you donÂt mind me changing direction a bit, what strikes me lately is how I seem to slip back into my old ways so easily. Yes, at a certain point I do start thinking that life is too short for all of this, but lately it seems like I am getting more and more deeply wrapped up into petty nonsense before that feeling kicks in. I am now actually starting to fear that in time my life will go on as if nothing ever happened Â as if this event had no effect on me. Of course that fear has many origins, but this particular issue is a big part of it. I just had a conversation with my mother this evening in which I wondered if perhaps we are too insulated from death in our culture to really appreciate life on a daily basis. In my first 37 years I had very little experience with the death of close friends or relatives, and when it did happen I was very insulated from it. Now I am wondering if that wasn't such a good thing. Please excuse me if I am mixing too much into one thread or if there are other threads that are more on topic. I just found my way here from the tractor forum and it seemed so serendipitous that this particular thread was here today. Greg

Thank you Forboystoo! I agree that the landscaping in the before pic, from what I can tell, was very attractive. It does look like they took the before pic in the height of Spring, which makes everything look lovely. Usually before pics are taken in the dead of winter! I do like the white paint, and I even like the dormer shutters as I feel they give some balance to the facade. To me, though, the biggest improvement in the after pic is the removal of the arch over the front door. I think that gabled overhang (not sure correct term for it) looks more appropriate. And I adore the new front door and door shutters...I am a big fan of door shutters. The pineapple doesn't bother me, looks like it was added for interest. I could go either way with it.

I know the feeling, Shades- I'm enjoying an adult beverage right now. One of the first things I planted at our new place was 2 daffodils. That's right- two. The little church I visit up there had a sermon which related to daffodil bulbs, so each person got one in a little kit with fertilizer and instructions. I wasn't going to take one, but the cutest little boy ran up and was SO excited to give me one! Then folks I insisted I take two; one for me and one for my wife. In the spirit (pun intended) of the thing I felt obligated to plant them. We visited in February, and they were up and had buds. Alas, we weren't there for the actual flowers, but I was still excited. Two down; about 500 to go. I want to naturalize them all over the place.

I was thinking about that yesterday kind of.

Would you rather be the visitor, or the visitee? I usually love it when folks come to see me. I think I would rather be the visitee, but then I don't have that much company, and they are 'close' loved ones.

Maybe I just welcome having visitors because I live alone, and don't get out and go much anymore...no one lives very close it seems.

I do lots of phone visiting...either calling folks or them calling me.

When we first moved to our house, I loved having people over, whether just for dinner or for a weekend or more. But over the past few years, I've realized it's more of a pain in the rear than it's worth. Nobody I know reciprocates, so I'm the one doing all the work every time we see our friends. Even when we meet friends for a camping trip, I plan the meals, do the shopping, and prepare all the food to take along. Half the time they don't even eat what I've bought (and only pay me for what they do eat), so I throw out lots of stuff when we get home.

As far as neighbors and friends, I rarely invite anyone over. Most of the time they're too busy, and I get tired of asking. And don't get me started on people who don't RSVP to party invitations. I had enough of that too and don't have parties anymore.

I can handle the chit chat. In fact, that's about the only aspect of entertaining that I enjoy. It's the planning, shopping, cooking, and cleaning up that get to me.

My motto for houseguests: "When you arrive is up to you, but when you leave is up to me."

Glad I am not alone on this one.

Ihate it too when people do not RSVP. My daughter told me today that she was at a dinner party last night, the host was expecting 6 couples and only 3 showed up. No phone call from the other 3.

I really enjoy entertaining and having company, but I'm so exhausted when they leave because I over-plan every detail...even when close family and friends come over. Always want everything to be perfect and everyone to enjoy themselves. Maybe it's because I had more energy when I was younger!

I don't know why, but I have been finding it more exhausting the older I get. I use to love to visit and have people over, now it just wears me out. I have to take a nap afterwards. LOL

I much prefer to be the "visitor" rather than the "visitee." I get to leave when I'm done chatting, and I don't have to sweep the floor, or wash the dishes, or clean the toilet!

I used to love visting, but so sad, I was one who stayed too long, and no one was kind enough to say GO HOME!. Now I don't visit, or even want anyone here. Do my visiting at the Cafe, or at a social/church function.

I loce going to other peoples' houses, but not having them at my house. Kids get on my nerves. I'm always worried they'll get hurt or break something or annoy the dog. Once I had a birthday party for my daughter. It was summertime, so everyone was outside. My sister in law dropped a jar of mustard on the back stairs, it splattered all over, my nephew threw toys in the pool, stuff lodged in the filter, just everybody did something that irked me. I am glad when everyone leaves.

I like company, but because of my work schedule I rarely had any the past few years except the weekend before Christmas. Most of my friends work the same schedule I did so they don't have time either. My dd and grands live too far away to visit often. I do enjoy visiting with Bob's family when they stop by because they don't stay too long.

Now that I've retired I want to meet my retired friends at restaurants or go for a day of shopping or just looking at scenery and such. Bob doesn't feel well most of the time and has become a pretty cranky PITA. I don't mind it because I can ignore it, but I don't want my friends to be subjected to it. Besides, I like to get together and have some " girl " time without a man around.
