Alina -- Gardening in a small space is fun! I'm a city dweller -- the widest point in my backyard is 20 feet. Having only so much space, I think, forces you to be more creative in putting things together, and to be more ruthless and experimental. So many things are trial and error anyhow in gardening. This season alone, I've redesigned my front yard twice, and there's still tweaking to do. I'm sure whatever you end up doing will eventually look fabulous. :) As for the roses, I don't plant the bulbs right up against them (they're about a foot from the base), and I use a soaker hose for watering. The bulbs aren't waterlogged because I wove the hose a couple of inches away from them, so they still get water, just not as much as the roses. Ironically, though, the couple of lilies that ended up on the waterline are taller and thicker than the others. They seem to be very happy. Leslie -- Thank you so much for sharing your combination. I love those 2 daylilies together against the purple. You have a really good eye...

Hi Lisa, The Longiflorums are the best for not turning their flowers to the sun but are imported by the dutch growers in the spring. You might want to call Snowcreek Daylilies/B&D Lilies to see if they will be offering "Divine" again this spring. I don't have Angela North but I have lilium Lankongense (one of its species parents). The stems tend to lean toward the sun but staking can fix that (which is easy to do with plant props or the branches of other plants - such as roses - since they don't get as tall as trumpets). Since their "turk's cap" shaped flowers hang downward like a bell, facing the sun isn't an issue. Lankongense has a smaller more delicate bloom with a beautiful rose like fragrance and more delicate foliage. Because it is less "dominant" in the garden it and (I presume) its hybrids would work well with companion plants. -Helen

Great pics everyone. I really love most of them, but here are a few of my fav's... Asiatics ff88 select and Sphinx .....someone said it may be something else but I like it either way. Sorry it's a little blurry Also like some of the tango's LA's Fangio and Royal Present Martagons Any that grow and bloom, I have a few now, but only a couple have bloomed so far. OT's I also like silk road and scheherazade. Orientals I like the fragrance, but really like the OT's for performance better. Species this one is a little unusual as it is a runner. Trumpets - White Henyri Now just need more ground so I can buy more......... Flora

You know and I know and even Daddy knows (in his head at least) that playing favorites is harmful to both kids. Sound like he either doesn't know or doesn't admit that he does it... But the kids do -- they always do. I don't know how your discussion went - other than badly. Were you able to discuss the issue of favoritism in general? Or that DD#1 is similar to Daddy and DD#2 is more like Mommy in temperament? I'm asking because if the whole discussion revolved around Dad's "bad decision" and "unfair treatment" (even if you were diplomatic and tap-danced like anything!), then it's easy to see how he reacted defensively and nothing positive was accomplished. Now I'm going to get out my asbestos suit -- Personally, I don't think it's so bad for a StepParent to hand out the discipline. I do think it's better for the BioParent to announce what the rules are and what the consequences will be for breaking those rules. But then the StepParent should be fully empowered to enforce those rules and mete out the agreed-upon consequences. Just the way police officers enforce laws enacted by the government, a StepParent should be able to enforce rules determined by the 'Parental Government.' So my real question is -- If you had a system that was working, why mess with it?
