Oh wow, I have never seen anything like that before. Are they real, as in really and truly growing or are they pieces of art? Incredible. I really like them.

They are quite real. They usually pop up in August. The unripe ones are shaped like zucchini, and then they open up and start to sort of dissolve into this black substance. I got some on my jeans when I was photographing them and it was impossible to get off. Thus the name.

I love how the tiny white flowers bring out the white streaks in the mushrooms. Lovely contrast with the black. Quite fantastical looking. I half-expect some bobble-eyed imps to peek out from the spears of grass.
