I do hope that helps until you make a decision what else to do. You might think about a second opinion also because this type of surgery takes a special surgeon. I do wish you the best.

I hope you get relief with the shots. Two tears? Oh no, that doesn't sound good. Hopefully they can figure out something that doesn't require surgery.

She brought in an instrument similar to ultra sound, to see exactly where the needle should go.

Wasn't as bad as I was afraid it would be, but then again, my best friend let me squeeze the daylights out of her hand :o)

The injections has no healing element, just pain relieving.

I'll put off surgery forever if I can. Just don't want to lose total use of my shoulder :o(

Told to keep on exercising, but for a day or so just no exercising that particular shoulder.

I hope you can avoid surgery.

I wish rather than the cortisone shot, he would have given you the hyaluronic acid injection today, but I do understand his wanting to kill the pain for you right away.

In the meantime, I wish you would go buy some Hyaluronic capsules and get started on them yourself. I'm sorry you have two tears and hope there is a way to avoid surgery. Shoulder surgery has a long recuperation time.

I've taken the hyaluronic capsules for 3 months. Told doctor and she recommended the shots, but she has to get an order for the shot, and I'll have it my next appointment in May.

I did get a prescripton for a patch, but won't use it only I need it.

My sister, who will be 85 soon, had rotator cuff tendon tear a couple of years ago....ended up having surgery followed by physical therapy.
Her pain returned big time so she had a reverse shoulder replacement on Monday. It is apparently for elderly people who have not gotten relief from the previous surgery.
I talked to her today and she was "loopy" from the pain medication. Talked to several hours later and she was doing OK....may go home tomorrow. She has her daughter, her boyfriend and granddaughter living with her but said it would be about 8 weeks before she can start using her arm. Rt. arm and she is right handed.

Whats wrong with your shoulder Glenda? Did you hurt it somehow?
I've had problems with mine for about 4 yrs now. Some days are worse then others.The only thing that ever helped me was a steroid pack, I used it twice but you can't stay on those things.

Glenda, so sorry to hear of this. Here's something to think about, if you haven't already been told. Don't put off the surgery so long that your miscles become so atrophied that recovery is extremely difficult.

Face the surgery while you are still strong enough to function. I hope that makes sense.

You have every right to inquire of your family just what help you can expect from them. Period! Let someone plan for a bit of time off to be with you for a couple of days. Let another someone camp out with you on a weekend. Helping a parent through a traumatic post surgery time is a privilege!

Ask your doctor for direction...or better, their nurses. A wonderful resource for information about how to cope would be physical therapists. How to prop yourself up, how to get up from a chair without using those muscles, how to get dressed, etc.

When I injured my shoulder a couple of years ago, the biggest milestone after weeks of PT was being able to (finally) fasten my bra from the back. I announced my 'accomplishment ' when I walked into the PT room and everybody applauded and laughed. You will have a big support group.

Anyway, I've had some serious shoulder issues and have been through several other surgeries, three of them while on my own. You can do it!

One of DH's favorite, pithy sayings is, "You can pay now or you can pay later -- but you will pay."

I'd go for the surgery pronto. You can go to a nursing home from the hospital for early recovery and to start your PT. Then a nurse can come to your home to monitior you and a PT to continue the therapy. You'll need some 'designated drivers' for appointments, shopping, etc.

Glenda, I fell about 18 months ago and tore my rotator cuff "80-99%" according to the interpretation of the MRI. I had a lot of pain for about 9 months, but I opted to not have surgery because the recovery is so long and there are really no guarantees you'll be as good as before. Plus I'm working and could not do my job for many months afterward. Anyway, I'm almost back to 100% without surgery or injections--it seemed to have healed on it's own. I don't know if I will have problems later, but for now I'm good. Just wanted to give you some encouraging news.

The shoulder surgery decision will be made in June. Appointment already scheduled.

This 'aging' is no game for sissies, that's for sure! Who knew? LOL

I got a shot in my left shoulder a few weeks ago, so far it's helped but after having an MRI I was told I need a shoulder replacement. I just had a total left knee replacement in October so he doesn't want to operate again so soon. (This happened to my husband 10 years ago, once he got his knee replacement he needed a shoulder replacement too.) Hope the shot relieves your pain.

Glenda, over the years and one just this past Monday, I have had several injections of cortisone. A day long headache always goes along with it. A minor problem if it gets rid of that nagging pain. Hope it does it for you.
