I don't understand if you were directly under it and shot straight up there would be nothing to see. It's a fascinating photo; I always look for natural explanations. There may have been some wind vortex that caused the clouds to form an elliptical pattern sorrounding it. Just a guess. Very neat photo, good catch!

Certainly shooting straight up from where you were positioned, there would be something, just not that because you were too far away.

Sometimes the clouds form a perfect circle around the moon or a halo when the atmospheric conditions are just right, can't remember the science involved in it, but I've seen it twice now.

And chemtrails :-). Seriously, I looked up one night and saw five parallel wide, evenly-spaced exhaust or vaporous trails just above me, went to the gas station where the lights were so bright you couldn't see them, came right home and they had mostly dissipated. Would five jets have been flying due east/west that evening? I'll never know. I only know what I saw and wish I'd had a camera at the time to capture it; the one I have now could have and there would have been enough time to set up the shot.

Oh well. I love unusual things but try not to buy into bizzare theories.

So glad you posted that picture again. I also like to look for sky oddities but have never seen anything like that. Great capture and thank you for sharing.
