First time this has ever happened to me and I'm hoping the last!

Just called the company we invited for dinner tonight wondering where they were.....they thought it was tomorrow night! We have accepted an invitation to a dinner party tomorrow night and we can't change that now.

So..........the roasted red pepper soup will freeze, the beet salad can be eaten over a few nights.

The stroganoff is a huge issue. The onions and mushrooms are already sauted, the sauce is made and maybe can hold a day but no more. I'll use the tenderloin for something or other and freeze it.

The dessert, Steve's Lemon Coconut Tarts, is fine because I'm going to eat it all by myself right now!

...oh and Clive's biggest gripe is that he shaved for nothing!!!!!

Ohhhh, too bad they couldn't have dropped what they were doing and came tonite anyway! Albeit a little later.
It's a good thing you called. I'm imagining the doorbell ringing tomorrow nite, when you're getting ready to go out!

John, My Kubota has a 54 inch deck, but yes I know what you mean . . . . it IS heavy - Maybe that's why they use a hydraulic cylinder to raise it ;-) The amazing part is that hitting all that junk doesn't seem to hurt anything. The blades I took off at the end of the first year weren't pretty, but they were still straight and I could have resharpened them I suppose - I installed a new set instead What impresses me most is the double belt they use to drive them - Even hitting all the junk I have, I've never stopped a blade and whatever it is that I run over just gets chunked out the chute . . . . good that the chute has a heavy steel cover or it would have been destroyed long ago When I think back to all the parts I bent and broke on my old Craftsman (not to mention the belts I shredded) and I never ran over anything at the old house like I have here It's an amazing tractor with an even more amazing deck under it, that's for sure! Well said. If this change in life is big enough to cause someone to give up community, well, I figure they weren't that vested in it in the beginning. Granted, some just come for advice, to milk ideas, and be congratulated, but some stay and become fixtures of humor and good sense. Ok, some craziness, too. I value the community, too. Granted, some of these changes are unnecessary and a PIA. Houzz doesn't really need to format GW as Houzz, given the fact it was separate-until-absorbed. But that never stops any parent company from (screwing around -- BTW, HTML code doesn't work) messing with something that ain't broke. But truly. If this is THE worst thing that ever happens online? We're lucky. I've seen entire companies fold and disappear, rather than someone buying them and continuing their (fan?) base.

I water mine the same way, sometimes I need to water 3x a week. 2x is pretty common for me, every house and climate is different. Mine is super dry and every window has a heater vent underneath. There is ideal conditions, and then there is what you have...;) Denise is right though, with the "just as its starting to dry", but I have also read of growers growing these suckers in trays of water too. And again, location probably matters but they are definitely water hogs. I suspect other factors may be at hand here... 2 things that have made mine blast are- -Cold temps -not enough light If the weather outside gets too chilly, the tender baby buds by the window are toast. Once they get past the round phase i to the "pointy" phase this doesnt seem to bother them. I had bud drop in my house when I first got it, because of a bad location. It has been in a West window ever since, but now that the sun is returning will probably be summering in an adjacent North window. And I also lost tons of buds and flowers on the one I brought to work for 2 weeks. They handle moving around surprisingly well, but unsurprisingly hated the lighting there. Now that I think of it, too dry will cause them to blast too. Also... miracle grow bloom busters. Fed mine some the other day and I swear the buds nearly doubled overnight. I give it a tsp per gallon of water I think. Just started fertilizing that way, before just an occasional foliar feed with tapping roots 1 or 2 times a month if I remembered. I also mist mine pretty regularly.

@2manydiversions. ROFL. So funny. I love the photos. @mzdee. I agree with how disgusting it looks with Terro bait. I used it last year and it was so gross to see. @benjesbride The last time we had ants, they swarmed meat. They invade during a hot summer and unfortunately, when I had chicken bones in the trash. I'll assume it's the same kind this time. They are swarming everything, paper, rice, crumbs, bones, sink drain. I just keep all food trash in the fridge right now until trash day. Thank you everyone for all your incredible information. I've been reading thru it slowly as I'm doing semi avoidance mentally. I keep feeling itchy all the time now and reading about ants just makes it worse. Update for everyone. After putting down diatomaceous earth, we came home to much fewer ants. My husband was so enthusiastic that he built dams everywhere in the house across all the threshold to the bathrooms and kitchens as well on on the sinks. We hop every time we go into the bathroom. The ants responded by finding new paths up on the ceiling and walls but in much smaller quantities. Vastly smaller. I'll add in spraying liquid diatomaceous earth on the walls when I get a chance. It's now in countable numbers per square feet here and there vs. a dark moving mass. I had the gardeners in today to strip the entire back and front yard of every piece of mold, leaf and weed. All our plants/roses are now stems. They did not find a single ant hill or colony. They did however, found a rat's nest. Ewww again. He cleared out it out and strip the entire area of my honeysuckle bush. It's no longer green and beautiful but just stems. I intend to keep that area extremely bare until I read up on deterring rats. Sigh. Next up is getting Terminix in to spray the entire front/back yard and outside of the house. I'll have to figure out how to get in the neighbor's yard next door. Their tenant just moved out. We shared one wall with their yard. California's zero lot line. The last time we had problems, the ant colony was in their back yard. It didn't invade their house but mine. I'm assuming it's the same issue this time. FYI, I can't find the beginning trails of my ants but while I was in LA taking care of the in laws, they had an ant invasion. Sigh, two battles on two fronts. Thank goodness, my BiL was visiting, he told me to use WD40 to spray the area that they're coming in thru to deter them. They came through the kitchen and swarmed the cat food and water in the dining room but after taking his advice, it's been three days now and no ants at my in laws.

Crud, I wouldn't handle that very well.

We left Sanibel early AM, passing up places I really wanted to visit on the way home because I "thought" I had an important dental appointment. I show up at the dentist only to have them say that the appointment was for the following day. So much for Google Calendar to keep in on task!

I have frozen stroganoff with the sauce, adding the sour cream after it's reheated. Freezes very nicely. That happened to me once but it was only one of three couples. My DD and DSIL filled in at the last minute. I'm having guests tomorrow night and would be very sad if someone forgot or had the wrong date.

Can they come on Sunday?

I recently had guests show up the night before. And I knew they would do that because when I called to issue the invite, the DH kept saying "see you friday" and I kept saying "Saturday". I placed a bet with Dad that they would walk in on Friday, at about 5:30. Sure enough, I won the bet. Seeing the error (and no dinner started yet that night), they went out and we had a lovely dinner on Saturday with them.

So how are the lemon tarts?

So sorry, Sharon! This happened to us once a few years ago. Waited and waited for the guests to arrive. Finally made a call and they thought they were supposed to come the following night.

They apologized up and down and said they'd leave immediately (they lived an hour away). Very nice of them to do so, but my beautiful dinner was not fresh and hot when they arrived as I hade kept it warm for so long. We also found out after the fact that they had eaten before they came so they barely picked at the offerings.

Needless to say it was not a good evening.

I think Nancy's idea is the best....have a lovey dinner...just the two of you.

Oh Sharon, I'm sorry!

Several years ago I had sent out written invites for our quite dressy Christmas party for Saturday Dec 11. On Sat Dec 4, we were all sitting around in our comfies, watching a movie and the doorbell rang. Hmmmmmm. Sure enough, one couple had put it on the calendar for the wrong weekend! So there they were, all spiffed up, us all not, staring at each other and laughing!

They ended up going out for the even also and had a wodnerful time. Her only complaint was that she had to go buy a new outfit since she felt she couldn't wear the same thing again since they had run into a couple of other guests! LOLOLOL!

Hope you did enjoy dessert!

Thanks for your condolences ; ) Much worse things have happened to me but it's still a bummer.

The more I think of it the more I think it was me that got the day wrong which should at least make my GF feel somewhat better.

The sauce for the stroganoff was completely made, well the demi glace wasn't added yet but the creme fraiche was, so there is no way I'm going to freeze it. I wasn't very hungry last night so we'll have a nice dinner on Sunday and I'll invite someone over, unfortunately this couple is busy Sunday.

I think though I better call the people whose house we are going to for dinner tonight and pray to God it wasn't last night! LOL
