I agree with bestlawn on both cabbage rolls and pigs in a blanket. That's what they were growing up in NJ and here in Texas.

I grew up and still live in Ontario. Pigs in blanket were always what Brian described and Cabbage rolls were what bestlawn described.

They both sound good!

I know them like Brian does.

Here in Holland Michigan, we make them from scratch. A homemade dough with ground sausage baked inside.

When my parents said we were having pigs in the blanket for supper, I expected cabbage rolls... but in both my elementary school cafeteria and the pancake restaurant my family frequented when I was young, "pigs" meant breakfast sausages wrapped in pancakes. This caused no intellectual dissonance for me. I've been known to ask "what kind of blanket?" when I didn't know which to expect from someone.

I grew up in PA and they were hot dogs wrapped in biscuts or dough.

Sausages or hot dogs in some kind of dough = pigs in a blanket, at least in our house. I like the little mini ones best. My mother calls it "toad in the hole". To Woody, that's an egg cooked inside a piece of bread. To her, it's sausages, or bangers, in bread or yorkshire pudding.

In my part of Ontario,pigs in a blanket are the sausage or weiners.

Cabbage rolls are just that..cabbage with beef,rice and whatever,rolled up....the way I have it figured,the only way the cabbage roll could be a pig in a blanket was if there was ground pork used.

I don't see where one has to be right and the other wrong.

It looks to me as though both are right, depending on where one was raised and trained.

Hmmm, I grew up in Michigan too (but I'm not Polish). Pigs in a blanket were hotdogs in dough. My mom never served stuffed cabbage - at least not that I can remember.

I grew up with Cabbage Rolls. Never heard them called "pigs in a blanket". There is no "pig" in them in our family. Made with beef...no pork.

Pigs in a blanket are most commonly sausage links rolled in pancakes around here. Also what Glenda posted.

You're both right (obviously, looking at the above results, unless your argument was which was more common). Both recipes are referred to as 'pigs in a blanket'. Growing up Polish, of course we mostly used the term to refer to stuffed cabbage but at some point I realized that any sort of sausage in dough is called the same thing but I didn't consider either right or wrong. It's just a nickname so really, how could it be?

Small hotdogs baked inside a roll are the only thing I've ever heard called "pigs in a blanket.

I'm very surprised to hear that cabbage rolls are called that too.

Brian gets the nod. The pork sausage is the pig, the roll or the pancake is the blanket. Otherwise, they're called cabbage rolls, like others here have said. It's illogical to call beef "pig" and cabbage leaves "blanket."

Weiners in dough here in Missouri. Funny though, regional stuff. A friend of mine said whwere she is from they have Pronto Pups,,,here they are called Corn Dogs...

Grew up in a small Polish town - upstate NY and there stuffed cabbage was called pigs in the blanket. The real name was Golabki. I have seen different spellings and the way I remember it being pronounced was galumpie. Forward to the 1960's - all of a sudden pigs in the blankets were cocktail weiners in dough. Some people also call sausages wrapped in pancakes pigs in the blanket.

I'm with Brian. Here in NJ even the catering businesses call the cocktail franks wrapped in pastry "pigs in blankets".

I have to agree with Brian too. Sausages in dough around my neck of the woods, where we have many people of Polish, Bohemian, German and Czech descent.

Pigs in a blanket in our house are the wieners wrapped in a biscuit or crescent roll. I always thought seasoned hamburger meat wrapped in a cabbage leaf was just that, stuffed cabbage or cabbage rolls. Very interesting the variance from one area to the next.

Grew up in New England....with Brian on this one.

Come to think of it, I have heard of sausage on pancakes being referred to pigs in blankets too.

LOL I have had sausage rolls (sausage rolled in flaky pastry and cabbage rolls but never pigs in a blanket.

First time I ever heard of pigs in a blanket was from reading the side of a crescent dough package.

Here in the UK, Pigs in blankets are little sausages (chipolatas) wrapped in bacon! Sausages wrapped in pastry are called sausage rolls!

I haven't gone thru and tallied the survey, but we always called cabbage rolls, pig in a blanket. It's only been in the last few years I've heard of hot dogs or sausage in dough called that.
