The only thing the Thermador didn't have was a convection fan. It was self clean, broil, timed bake, bake, micro, broil/micro, bake/micro with a low, medium or high setting for the microwave. I personally rarely used the microwave only setting since I had a stand alone microwave. From what I understand that is why it went out of favor with consumers - it was a poor micro-only oven. Now as to the design flaws of the built-in Jenn-Air convection/microwave, I'm going to be adding to this so I don't make any mistakes and misrepresent it. I rarely use the Jenn-Air convection/microwave any more. My biggest complaint is that it turns itself off. I'll preheat it, hear the bell that it reached temperature and when I'm finished prepping find the oven has turned off. It will only preheat for a certain amount of time and after that time has been reached, it will exhaust the heat from the oven. A second complaint is the temperature fluctuation - more frequently lower than higher. The temperature is displayed on the digital readout. Heaven forbid that you open the door to check on your food, it takes forever to re-reach the set temperature. The oven was half programmed correctly. The oven does permit one to set the convection/roast/microwave to any combination one would desire. It's the convection/bake/microwave that can't be set other than the reprogrammed settings. So the capability is there - just incomplete. There is one thing that we do use the oven for regularly and that is reheating pizza, pancakes and waffles on the crisper pan. If you are into convenience foods then this oven is for you. There are just two of us and we both cook so normally we would use the smaller convection/microwave oven more - we don't because of our frustration with the product. As I had said we did use the GE convection/microwave more than our full-sized oven. I will be adding to this post. There are more complaints. I just want to document them correctly.

There are a few recipes books for steaming - mostly based on the steamer basket you put on top of a pot of water or the steamers they sell to cook rice. For salmon, I lightly salt it, then steam it, and heat a sauce in a small pan to give it some flavor. The sauce I use is 1 cup fat free half and half, 1 teaspoon cornstarch ( you can increase this if you like your sauce to be thicker ) 1 TB dill, 1 TB honey mustard - bring to a simmer and let simmer for about 5 minutes. Pour over the fish when it is done.

I took a little course put on by the Wolf distributor here ... it was very informational. They didn't recommend using straight convection for anything that has much of a side on the pan, because the side blocks the air circulation, which is how the food is being cooked, so the top will cook faster than the inside. But it's fine to use convection with cookie sheets and broiler pans, or at least try to use the lowest side available. Also, don't cover food if you're using convection. They recommended convection bake for pies, not straight convection. And, if you are using straight convection, flavors will not transfer (eg, it's okay to bake a tray of bacon-wrapped scallops on one rack and cookies on another). They also said to turn down heat 25 degrees and reduce time 20 to 25 percent with convection, which matches what I've heard elsewhere. Here is the percentage of oven element used for each mode (this is for Wolf) Bake stone = 40% broil, 60% stone Bake = 10% broil, 90% bake (the hidden element on bottom) Convection bake = 90% fan, 10% bake Broil = 100% broil Convection broil = 100% broil, 100% fans Roast = 25% broil, 75% bake Convection roast = 25% broil, 75% fans Convection = 100% fans

After carefully reading the 47-pg manual that came with our F&P washer (same with the top-loading dryer, LOL), I was happy to discover that it will wash pretty much everything automatically with the press of 2 buttons. Yup, that works for us. Took a little longer to read the KA DW manual to figure out how the Pro Scrub system worked, but the real issue was learning to load it - our previous 1989 DW had a central tower so loading was quite different than the KA. But the REALLY intimidating purchase was the 2010 Ford Fusion car. Two manuals, one just for the Microsoft SYNC system, and we still can't figure out how to change the clock! There's no info on it in the manual, I guess because it's supposed to be 'so easy'....Jeez, it makes you feel stupid! We've already had to go back once to the dealer to figure out how the 'easy plug-in' for the iPod worked, now I guess we'll have to go again so we can have the correct DST displayed.
