Slightly blanching it will give it a great color. Just a quick dip and into ice water.

This is one that I use and the flowerets are not cooked

Broccoli Salad

1/4 lb fried bacon, crumbled
Flowerets from one large bunch of broccli

Dressing(make day before)
1 cup mayo
1/2 cup sugar
2 tsp vinegar

Crumble bacon over flowerets
Pour dressing over when ready to serve OR I sometime let them plate the broccoli and serve themselves to the dressing

I arrange the flowerets in a clean glass pie plate when I pour the dressing over the salad.

I meant CLEAR glass pie plate

I never cook or blanch mine, but I guess you will just have to try it.

It's been a while since I made the salad I posted, but I seem to remember the flowerets were a little too large so cut them into smaller flowerets. Think it made it easier to put into the mouth :o) instead on one large floweret.

I never cook it either. RAW broccoli is GREAT!

I like raw broccoli on a veggie plate. I wondered if it might be too hard/overpowering in a salad.

I love raw brocolli on a veggie pizza! Mmmm!!! All the veggies on veggie pizza are raw.

I just use it raw.

Kat, I think Glenda made it clear - she uses a "clear" plate... not a "clean" one! But with enough bacon, who cares?

I don't think broccoli would be too hard. The fuzzy florets especially should be quite tender. I think I'd try it raw. You could always blanch it next time if you didn't like it.

Broccoli was not in my diet growing up. I only (relatively speaking) "recently" learned to appreciate it. And I've grown to like it more and more.

And inspired by Glenda's recipe, I think I'll try some bacon wrapped broccoli! On a clear plate. Likely it'll be clean after I finish with it! :)

My EX DIL called me for that recipe, years ago, after she became my ex. She sooooo loved that salad.

GS told me he likes broccoli, so if and when I see him for a meal, I'll fix this one again.

Hey, Cynic, I DID find bacon wrapped broccoli.

I'll pass, but I'm posting just for you :o)

Bacon Wrapped Broccoli Florets
Ingredients
1 head of broccoli
1 pound of bacon, sliced
Toothpicks
1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 cup soy sauce
Garlic powder
Lemon pepper
Separate and trim broccoli into bite-size florets. Cut bacon in half across the width. Wrap bacon slice around each florets. Stick toothpick into each. Place on cookie sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and soy sauce. Sprinkle with garlic powder and lemon pepper to taste. Broil or bake in oven at 425 degrees for 15 minutes.

when I cut up broccoli I peel the stems too and slit them into four pieces part way up and then cut off pieces about a 1/2 inch thick. That way you have more salad and you dont waste as much. MY mother had canarys and they absolutely love pieces of broccoli clothespinned to the wire inside of their cage. My sister-in-law is the one who told me about peeling the stem and using it too. She even put sticks of it on vegetable platters just like celery sticks.

It depends of the salad. If it is just the chopped broccoli, bacon, sunflower seeds, etc I use raw and if it is the marinated cauliflower, broccoli,carrot, onion and olive salad I steam the cauliflower, carrots and broccoli briefly.
