Thanks for the tips, The earwigs have been targeting my squash plants. All the squash plants I sowed directly in the garden never got beyond their first true leaves before the earwigs totally destroyed them. The one squash I planted out from my mini greenhouse is barely hanging on. I could use all the tips I can get. For some reason the earwigs seem to be fixated mainly on my squash seedlings, as most of my other vegetables are not being decimated. I will come out at night and find them munching on the leaves in groups. Will try the beer trap ideas and maybe the petroleum jelly.

Ok, I get what spidey is now!! Very neat and creative! Don't you love finding new ways to use things in the garden??! It will be a lot of fun for him getting to plant things around Spidey ;-) Plus I could see having a big Halloween party around it with fake cobwebs, bales of hay, and pumpkins for your nephews and nieces! Glad to hear Mandy is doing well again- and back playing with her boys! CMK

GGG- Good point, but I don't want wire in the front, since the annuals only look good for 3 - 4 months of the year. I have blueberry shrubs, perennials and strawberries on two outside perimeter beds, but the others are not planted yet. I may put shrubs and perennials on the other side, but the front bed would look much better with flowers. Here's a fence I just love, which is what I want to do with the front. Hollyhocks, snapdragons, sunflowers, marigolds, etc. would be wonderful...but don't look like much from October through April. Many annuals only survive June-August with our cold evenings, so a wire fence would be very exposed, most of the year. I'm hoping the blue/gray pickets will look a little more french and tie in more with the black arches and arbor. The birdbath is now under an arch, in a perimeter bed/butterfly garden area. The middle (in front of the arbor) is now home to 'spidey' which will be covered with peas, beans, flowers, mini-pumpkins and gourds, with melons in between the legs...along with flowers, herbs and anything else my nephew can dream up for his garden area :) For the view areas, I do not want pickets, so the lowest black wire I could find is a 28" rabbit fencing, which will hopefully be covered by shrubs, vines and perennials in the next few years. Only the picket fence should be visible, by the time I'm finished. Here's a picture of the birdbath, and I'm debating about putting wire/cord around the back of the arch to enclose the birdbath. With clematis and sweet peas, I think it would be charming, surrounded by lots of butterfly friendly flowers...the plants for the caterpillars are all over the fields and down by the creek! :)

I don't think of it as women's intuition. I believe there are extra senses that we have had that, over time, have been tucked away and ignored. To the point that in many people, they no longer exist. But in others, they have been .. if not embraced, at least they've been accepted .. and society tries to put a name on it to make it less than it is. Do I have facts, figures, studies, official findings? No. I have my own experiences and that of people in my family or friends. And I would accept these much more readily than any official finding. So do I believe in intuition? Yes. Do I believe in other abilities, such as empaths and mediums? Yes. Do I have these abilities? Just a tinge, but wish I had more.
