Blind outside mount question

I've never done an outside mount on a bind, only inside the window. I think I am going to order this blind from JC Penney (see link below); I have a 30% off coupon, so that makes it a deal! Since it is not custom, it won't fit inside my window, and I will have to do an outside mount. I have a quesiton about the following instruction:

"For outside mount installation, headrail must overlap window opening at least 1Â½" on each side."

This is probably dumb, but I want to make sure I order the right size. When it says window opening, does that include the window casing or does it just mean the actual hole for the window? I wanted to mount the blind right outside the casing, which is 2 inches wide, so it would line up with the window sill width, so I would go with the 35 inch wide blind. But if the instructions include the casing, then I would have to go with the 39 inch blind and it might look stupid.

By casing, are your referring to the decorative molding around the front of your window or the the inside framing (called the sill)?

I would measure exactly where you want the side edges to stop and buy that width. Their instructions refer to those instances where you want the rail to be at the top edge of the window. They just want to make sure you're hitting wood framing when you install the headrail and not the edge of drywall.

Even if you wanted the side edges of the WT to be the same as your window opening, you would then hang the rail higher so that you were were mounting it to a more solid backing.

Yeah. It just means that you need something wide enough on either side on which to mount the headrail, so that there's not a space between the edge of the blind and the opening. So you measure the actual opening and add at least 1 1/2" on each side.

We have those JCP Cape Cod blinds and like them very much. Mine were cheaper online than at the local store and we got free shipping. Thirty percent off is great!

I have the same setup, with custom made and hung drapes from JCP. They are pinch-pleat, hung on a circle hook on a fluted wood rod. I asked them to hang them so the bottom of the pleat is in line with the top of the wood blind. They measured and mounted them on brackets that extend past the blind. I'm very pleased with them. I know there are some issues with the hardware on my blinds...long story, don't care, they are what they are. Anyway, here are pics.

I installed 2" white painted faux in our sunroom & 2 bathrooms - similiar to your sizes - Since we have an old home w/lovely moldings I opted for inside mount - because the trim has graduated detail it took some doing to have them properly hang/operate and clear all the trim - Glad I had professionals do that agree w/gk about the 1" good luck

To answer your question regarding mixing window treatments..Yes, absolutely you can mix curtain styles and unify the look with using same fabric or shape. Is this your home? I might suggest painting the window molding white to not attract so much attention to all the windows. I think an attractive solution to the quarter round windows is to mount an upholstered valance/lambrequin on the top portion of window giving the window shape a overall rectangle appearance. It is a DIY project that is relatively simple. You could choose a bold stripe or print and drapery panels in a coordinating solid for your other windows. I like the color of the ones pictured. I think your drapery rod height is fine. It is really a cute place. Good luck.

I think you can get motorized. My neighbor did an installation about a yr ago w the remote control for these . Everything is so fancy w apps....you can probably program the timing in your phone . Try Hunter Douglas and pay the bit more to get exactly what you need. Look at this as an investment in the infrastructure of the space. Apps for coupons at the grocery....make use of the technology if its needed for day to day life.
