help... pumpkin filling used in trifle question

I'm making a Paula Deen recipe for Pumpkin Gingerbread Trifle. The recipe calls for pumpkin pie filling with additional sugar and cinnamon/ cardamom to be combined with cook 'n' serve vanilla pudding. The stores don't have pumpkin pie filling this year, so I bought Libby's canned pumpkin and followed the directions for their pie. After I put it in the refrigerator, it hit me that there are raw eggs in the 'pie filling' recipe. Should I cook the pumpkin mixture, then cool it down to combine with the pudding? I don't want to make anyone sick!!!!!
