So i am moving my VFT outside and hardening it off. it seemed to be doing okay indoors for a few months but then the leaves started turning black and mushy and dying. i am trying to save it. there are still quite a few green leaves and stems on it. Ive only had it about 5 months and it is in the small plastic pot that it came in with that same potting soil. i water it with only distilled water keeping the soil moist. i read that they need high humidity levels and that they normally live in bogs so its pot should be submerged several cm in distilled water at all times mimicking it’s natural habitat. I’m not sure where i read this but i have been doing this. Now im worried that i have drowned my plant. should i repot it in perlite and sphagnum moss and move it outdoors?

what a wonderful story .... I love it. :) ...thanks for sharing.

See if you can ask the nursery what the rootstock is. It might or might not produce a cherry that you would like for eating (many cherry rootstocks are crosses of different types of cherry), but it definitely won't be the cherry you wanted or any other cherry variety that is normally grown for fruit. If someone around you has a cherry tree that you like, you could ask them for a couple of cuttings that you could try to graft onto your surviving rootstock. I had the same thing happen to my super-dwarf apple - I did let the rootstock grow, then grafted a desirable apple onto it. (It took me a couple of tries, but I finally succeeded!)

I was gifted an asparagus fern - s variety i believe- not sire how to spell. But it only has two or three stems an looks quite sickly. iam wondering if i should try to rehab it or try soaking roots and repotting?
