Who's cooking their turkey in a Nesco roaster??

Mom always did her turkeys in a Nesco roaster and I am within a hair of buying an 18-quart one at Bed Bath & Beyond - $64 before tax with a 20% off coupon.

I've read that you have to do a burn-off or burn-in before you use a new one, but doesn't sound too complicated. I'll either cook the bird out in the garage, or on a big wooden cutting board on top of my dryer. (Mom always cooked hers in the basement.)

I have a single oven, so am thinking it sure would be nice to free up some space for appetizers, rolls and what have you.

I need some enabling here, so what say you??
