It just gets better and better....

Not only did the granite installers drop my cooktop and revert it back into it's original atomic structure this morning, I spoke with the appliance company who said my Bosch double oven would be delivered the end of January. Scratch that, February 5th. Oops, try February 12. Hmmm... will February 20th work for you?

And today (drumroll please) mid March! They graciously offered to substitute the SS model for the black one that I ordered in December 08 at their expense. I checked it out at the store this evening and thumbs down, I want the black one.

I knew everything was going too well. What is getting me through this aggrevating time is (and I plagarize) 'this isn't a body part and it isn't a loved one'. Although someone's loved one may lose a body part if they don't get my appliances here in pristine condition soon:)

That helps me - and beer/wine. Lots of nice cool beer and wine. Thank God they didn't demolish my new wine fridge - that'd be war.

keep your spirits up katrine....i realized today (after a bad tile experience) that there are two kinds of bad....kitchen-reno bad and chimp-ate-my-face bad...let's raise a glass of 48-degree sauvignon blanc to being members of the first group!!

I don't know what happened to the forbs. A couple years ago there were entire areas that are now bare that were planted in native forbs. I plan to go back and shoot some more photos in fall, preferably late afternoon when it really catches the light. It is stunning. I think its nicer and much more interesting than the typical ornamental varieties I see planted so often everywhere around here. They look so contrived (boring) by comparison, but that is just my own preference. I am leaning toward going exclusively native with the grasses and have already started giving away the imported "garden" grasses I bought last year.

thanks all, you are very kind. I love my roses, glad to share them with you. Rosarium U is a lovely rose, disease resistant, hardy, non stop blooms. I guess that the light is shining through the petals, that is why they look thin, they are fairly thick actually. Everyone should try this rose if you have the room, it really is a pretty addition, it adds alot of color in a spot that needed brightening. Valerie

FDH will have a talk to the school counselor first and discuss what they can do, I don't know if CPS is an option. We have rang them before and they investigated but didn't think there was a problem. But we'll see after he spoke to the school counselor. As for lonepipers question, BM never used to allow the kids to ring FDH on the phone. And when FDH tried to ring them she got the home phone disconnected. Seriously. When they went back to court in '08 she got it re-connected. SHe also gave kids mobile phone at young age to take to our place so she can ring them on it (even though we never not allow her to talk to them and she'll ring and keep them talking for 2 hours..). At her place they used to have to hand the mobiles back and she switched them off. Now that the kids are a bit older it's harder to not allow them to ring FDH, but she's discouraged it for so many years that the kids just don't seem to want to make the effort anymore. They also know intuitively that there's consequences if they do initiate a call (puts BM in bad mood). So they don't ring FDH, unless BM enourages because BM needs to know something. As for FDH ringing them, he rings them every Tuesday and he did so this time as well. But SD13 didn't tell him that she was not at school. The therapist we saw advised FDH to try and keep a routine for ringing the kids, this way it's easier on the kids because it's predictable and BM will get used to it over time so there's no fall-out after the phonecall. So this is what FDH is doing. He rings them on Tuesday and sees them on the Thursday when he picks SD12 up for her guitar lesson. Also then he wasn't aware that SD13 was not going to school. It's not him who's not caring enough or not bothered, it's BM who's making them keep secrets. Very hard to prove something like that. But if you were here with us for a period of time and you would see it for yourself I bet you'd still find it hard to believe. I do.

*Eventually* you will have a beautiful kitchen and that will make it all worthwhile! The tough stuff passes and gets hazy with time, booze, and the support and friendship of your kitchen forum pals. I know *I* couldn't have gotten through it without everyone's help! We been there - we still here!!! LOL!

SO - wanna pass a glass of wine this way? Wait, it's 8 in the morning. Oh heck, just a sip... ;-)

I had a contractor (also my husband) drop my oven door on the floor and we were left with a gaping hole for 2 months. It was a long 2 months. Anyway TGIF and I agree, it could be worse as in Travis the Chimp! Don't sweat the small stuff

Sorry for the trouble katrine, that really does suck. If it makes you feel any better I have brand new cherry red front loaders sitting in their boxes in the basement while my DH builds me a new laundry room. They've been there since October while I try not to complain and still use my ancient piece of crap washer and dryer. This laundry room is being built by the man who left a gaping whole in front of my house for 3 years while planning a pond...and then decided that a pond wouldn't work there. ARGH!

Wink-wink: "Chimp-ate-my-face-bad" is now a permanent part of my lexicon.

And I sympathize, katrine. We were without a kitchen for five months, and we nearly lost our minds. This kitchen made me cry more than once. But the end result will make you smile for years, I promise.

Here are the tragedies of Friday, February 20th, so far.

The Moen on the main sink (Blanco Anthracite super single) is fine. The soap dispenser is broken and the air switch is missing parts.

The bar faucet (Danze) is too short to be installed in granite. I was a theoretical math/stat major so I'm pretty confident that 1" The electricians have been here all day. So far they haven't come up with anything insurmountable, just things that are taking a bunch of time to work around.

The water line to our fridge got nicked when DH removed the freezer door to get the blasted thing through a doorway that his math geek wife told him it wouldn't fit through. So that's leaking and I have to call the Kitchenaid repair Gods.

My 4 year old wandered over to the 'dangerous' side of the basement and flipped the furnace off. So I thought our brand new furnace was on the fritz.

And Mean Gene the Stain Machine stopped by this morning to (what I thought) stain the cabinet molding. Nope. He just wanted to get the job scope to see where he could fit it into his schedule sometime within the next two weeks. He'll let me know next week...

I have to play corporate wife tonight at a customer entertainment so I'm really happy the expensive bottles of wine/single malts I'm going to order for self medication aren't on my dime:)

I know EXACTLY what everyone else feels...

My reno headaches so far:

1. When moving our new stove and fridge at the SAME time...in my boyfriend's truck (he thinks the Tundra god can do no wrong) the straps holding the fridge in place slipped and the fridge hit the front of the stove. BIG dent...and I was driving...

2. The wall oven cubby hole...great gw's here AGREED with me that that huge cabinet should be recessed or broken up so it doesn't feel weird when you're cooking at the range (besides we won't have a wall oven anymore). DB (boyfriend) didn't like that Idea because it meant more work. After about a week and threatening to stab him in the eye with a pencil i won and of course now he agrees that it's much better.

3. Get appliances in....dent still in stove. Now oven doesn't work because it's not just a dent...but messed up the digital parts, so now on back order for that part...maybe 3-4 more months without an oven...=(

4. The worst part: During demo, the downstairs heating unit went out...which meant we couldn't do the floor, AND 2 days later the well pump went out so no water. I could have pulled my hair out and just died, so after 1200 on the heat unit, and 600 for a new pump we were back in business...until the new pump caused a voltage spike and blew a breaker and we could not find a new box to fit in the same spot....

Now we're finally back on the right track 2 1/2 weeks later..floors down...countertop is getting templated Tuesday.

I was so hoping our reno would be done before my dad left for afghanistan for deployment...but he leaves 7am March 3rd and our countertops will not be in then. *sigh* guess he'll see them in 18 months!

OMG Dana & Cate...your remodels are starting to sound like mine! I won't bore you with the details, but suffice it to say that we went through hell getting our vent hood vented outside (only b/c the contractor didn't want to do it!), had to deal w/numerous (and I mean numerous) measuring errors, had a hellish granite install, and are still waiting for the punch list to be done...! Our 6-8 week remodel that started 1/21/08 turned into a 5-month ordeal just to get back in the kitchen!

Hang in there...it is definitely worth the hassle in the end!!!

I hope you are cutting & pasting your "rants" somewhere - it is quite entertaining, cathartic and good reading. You have a knack for good humor, words, that takes the reader right there.
Hope the corporate wife event was worth the expensive stuff you got to inbibe - I cringe when dh says we have one. My response is, "I don't have anything to wear and they don't sell dresses at the hardware store!"

Please do a 21st post - I'm sure when your feet hit the floor, the phrase "what will we do today" takes on a whole new dimension

Take heart. I was without a stove for a little over a year. We're on year two months into our "quick" kitchen remodel and it's still nowhere near complete. At some point in the (hopefully) near future, I am going to be losing access to my kitchen for at least another month. I've lived in chaos for so long it's become normal.

It just gets better and better....
