Good Heavens! The United Nations wants to give me $500,000!

I just got an email from a fellow who says he works for the UN. It seems the United Nations wants to give me $500,000. He wants me to contact him at his Yahoo account. Isn't it strange that the Executive Secretary at the UN has to use a Yahoo account for his email?

Anyhow, I have been thinking of what I want to buy. It is so nice of the UN to want to help me, but I really have no great needs. Maybe I will buy a condo for my son, who lives in a city with a VERY high cost of living.

I wonder how people would feel who donate to the UN to see their donations become a nice condo for my son!

Well it must be your lucky day! LOL Wouldn't it be nice if these email were true and we could be getting a few million from our dear long lost friends in Nigeria (or the UN)

Sorry, but I'm not impressed...I was offered millions of dollars the other day. I just wonder how many suckers they find.

I didn't mean that anyone here on this page was condemning each other, i meant the world in general, and not just the middle east. there's still the irish. i don't see how, if god wouldn't allow the bible to be changed too much, then there would even be not only different versions of the bible (it says in one version at least that the word of god is not to be altered in any way), but also other religions, some completely at odds with the bible. and don't forget the dead sea scrolls, angelic writings found, and why is there more elsewhere to be found about the war in heaven but not according to christians? we were given free will, so i can't see how any book written or edited by man can be comepletely fact- there's a whole lot to wade through to get to the truth. no reason for anyone to fight over what's in the da vinci code- even if it wasn't meant to be ficion, it's still another man's point of view and therefore worth as much as anyone else's. okay, okay, i'm rambling, this is no longer going to make any sense.

I know how your heart is breaking and yes in the beginning your heart breaks and you cry until you don't think you can cry anymore, but the tears will still come from somewhere. I don't think that's something a parent or grandparent should put on a (grand)child, or that a (grand)child should agree to. And I say that as someone who, on both sides of the family, is one of the few willing or eager to accept hand-me-downs and heirlooms. Honestly, it's nice to have the choice. My parents were first generation in the U.S. and each arrived with just a suitcase, so whatever I inherited they bought during their marriage. My parents' Kittinger mahogany end tables have glass on top, which is very practical for drinks (no coasters needed lol) and as another place to display photos, kids' drawings, special invitations, etc. I can either dust wood or clean glass weekly : ) My husband's family has much more, though the quality isn't always there. There's some great vintage and antique kitchenalia, a lovely Hoosier plus 1930s enamelware and 1950s Pyrex, but also some very ugly, very sturdy furniture like the sofa above. I have a pretty traditional style as well, and we enjoy daily use of the family items we have, but also like that we've had a say about what to keep and accept -- what is meaningful to us and suits our style. The other thing that has been helpful for us, is to use these things regularly, so that the kids learn and understand the family history behind them, and have the time to develop a fondness and appreciation for them, is to use these items. If you keep the good stuff, whether it's Granny's old tea set or your wedding china, in storage except for once a year at Christmas, your kids and other family will have a difficult time making that connection and liking the stuff, especially if it's very different from your/their usual style. Then again, it's up to my kids what they want to keep. The rest we can sell and have a party or take a trip : ) . The comment above about the old tradition of hand-me-down furniture for starter homes is apropos -- no-one really wants to start out with a starter home anymore, and if you watch any HGTV you know that even first house buyers expect stainless appliances and granite countertops. I also think there's a paucity of imagination when it comes to family items. As Veda says, younger people *are* buying older stuff. A lot of the current Kinfolk look is based on vintage items, and RH and Barn Light Electric among many make their money selling the faux vintage look. Maybe kids and grandkids are used to seeing the items as they looked at home. But put them in a different setting, styled differently, and it's vintage vs. "grandma".

I used Micron black technical pens, and Prisma watercolor markers/pencils. I absolutely love to dabble in all things creative. Gardening included! There's always something to learn and it keeps me both curious and humble. We're supposed to FINALLY get some much-needed warm weather starting tomorrow here in Nashville, TN. I can't wait to get outside and catch up on a few things. My last-remaining hen who the kids named, "Chubby Cheeks," passed away. She was the lone survivor of a coyote attack a few months ago. I recently bought some new chicks at the co-op to raise and keep her company, but I think either illness or loneliness beat us to it. We plan to make some better adjustments to the coop tomorrow when it's warmer, and do all we can to make this next batch of chickens as happy and spoiled rotten as possible. Good for you. I have a Nigerian General who wants to make me a millionaire. We should get together when we get our fortunes.

Sad part is... so many people, including a few on this forum, believe that crap. After all, if it comes in an email, it must be true, right?

I get those too! What I have always wanted to do is write them back saying "Wow! This is great! But instead of giving me the money please forward the check to the State of IL - c/o the Govenors Office. Please attach a note saying "This is to bring down your budget deficit".

I wrote to a couple, saying that I thought there'd been a mistake - that there was no recipient named for the mail.

And that I wouldn't know what to do with 40% of about 18 million.

Also, since I was claiming to be a long-lost semi-relative of someone whose whole family had been killed in a plan crash, [that was supposed to be "plane" - but I thought the error too delicious to edit] that I'd expect that their authorities would want to see my credentials in person ...

... and that I had no desire to spend the remaining years of my life in a Nigerian jail, charged with attempted fraud.

The upshot? I got more of the same!

I've received several hundred - I thought the total cash offered to be probably a billion by now ... but just maybe my share would be a billion, by this time.

I've received a number supposedly from a dying woman whose inlaws are about to take all of her dead husband's assets - but he had this stash squirreled away that they didn't know about and she wants to have me collect it and give it to widows and orphans. I've thought to suggest that she give it so some local person to have them give it away in her poor country ...

... but am not enamored of setting myself up for a larger number of such requests.

Here's an idea - have a throw-away address that you use as a screener for any questionable contacts, e.g. entering contests at festivals, etc., e.g. "junkmailsystems@yahoo.ca" - and, sorry, that one's taken.

Actually, on a radio program on our national radio service this morning dealing with a whistle-blower in the federal government who was ostracized and eventually dismissed from his federal government position and has had little result in trying to publicize the malfeasance, whose marriage is hurting and who's near bankruptcy ...

... I've been wondering whether, with a comfortable income last year but enabling myself to avoid federal tax entirely, and it looks as though I'll be close to nil federal tax this year ...

... maybe I should send him a cheque.

For somewhat less than Multiplied Millions, you can be sure!

Well my money, 2,500.000.00, is supposed to be delivered by a diplomatic agent 'in a box' but.....

"The diplomat departed this morning and we have been expecting a call from you and the diplomat because we told him to call us once he arrived at your address so that I will speak with you to make sure he has delivered the package to you but the call we got from the diplomat few minutes ago was that he has lost your information at the Albany International Air Port, New York. I should have given him the information but I could not find it in our mailbox due to too many junk mails we receives and we used to delete all messages everyday. I got to found only your email address because it was in our address book but your other info were deleted."

Love this last part...
"Note once again: The Diplomatic agent does not know that the content of the consignment box is $2,500,000.00 (Two Million Five Hundred Thousand United States Dollars) and on no circumstances should you let him know the content. The consignment was moved from here as family treasures, so never allow him to open the box."

I bet that scoundrel knew what was in my box and made off with it because I haven't received it!!!

A couple of years ago I got an email from "Rita", who was dying of throat cancer and wanted me to take the many millions of dollars that her husband left her, donate some to charities of her choosing and keep the rest. Seems she couldn't trust her family. I had a little fun with "Rita", emailing back and forth, with me suggesting other ways I might distribute her money, and other ways she could find redemption (the reason she wanted to do this in the first place) then finally she stopped answering my emails.

Then a couple of months ago I got another email from Rita with the same story. I emailed her back and told her that I was so glad to hear from her, because I thought she'd be dead by now. Sadly, she did not respond to my email, so I guess she has found someone else to distribute her money.
