Wonder if you could partially bake the cream cheese layer. Total baking time is 60- 65 minutes. Wonder if you could bake the cream cheese layer just enough to get the egg in it to start setting up. Then take it out of the oven, let it cool just a little before pouring the pumpkin layer on.

I would pour the pumpkin layer slowly over the back of a spoon, too. That is an old trick for keeping layers separate...so that the top layer just glides across the bottom layer instead of hitting it with any force.

I'll be interested to see what other folks suggest.

Yep, an old bartender's trick for making layered drinks using specific gravity, not that I am old or a bartender or have ever make fancy layered drinks. But I've read about it. ;-)

I still think I'd cook the first layer just a bit. It is like a congealed salad where you congeal each layer before adding the next. Or an ice cream bombe where you freeze each layer before adding the next.
