Does your washer and/or dryer cabinet have a back side?

It appears that the back wall of my new stacked washer and dryer unit is hacked off so that the washer and dryer can stick through the back of the cabinet for extra space.

Do you think this affects the strength of the cabinet, or are the sides of the cabinet enough support? The front consists of pocket doors, and they provide no support at all.

Additionally, the fact that there is no back opens the guts of the plumbing and plumbing/electrical holes and wall interior up to the house allowing the passage of rodents.

Does a cabinet of this sort usually have a backing with holes in it for the passage of the dryer vent and plumbing?

Besides patching up all of the holes with steel wool, anyone have a creative idea for stopping the passage of unwanted guests through the cabinet that has no back?
