I have all three of those (Sunset Celebration, Tahitian Sunset and Valencia). Valencia is my fav of the three, but it is slow to establish, as has been said. But once established, it has enormous very fragrant blooms of a really unique gold-peach color. It's also slow to repeat, but oh so worth the wait. Sunset Celebration is kinda blah, normal, as roses go. Nothing too exciting about it. Nice flower for cutting and it holds indoors. But not too much in the scent department. I tried to replace it once with a rose called Scent-sation, which is the same color but supposedly fragrant. NOT! Don't go there. Scent-sation is a disease magnet with much smaller flowers than Sunset Celebration and also, no fragrance in it that I can detect. Why someone had the nerve to call it "Scent-sation" is beyond me. Tahitian Sunset is also okay, but the form of the flower is a little loosey goosey for my taste (and actually I think they blow faster than Sunstruck flowers). Sunset Celebration has more hybrid tea-ish form, while Tahitian Sunset acts more like a floribunda. Tahitian Sunset is also a quick repeater, but I don't consider it a cutting rose for bouquets. It's more of a garden color splash, mostly orange. I haven't had terrible disease issues with any of the three, but I do spray reasonably regularly. Kathy

Thanks Seil :-) I wonder though if Julia Child has a more consistent size across climates, it's small to medium down here. Whereas Buck roses change--according to the Buck rose website Carefree Beauty is a small shrub and ARE in TX says medium to large?? I should post to the general forum I think.

I have used the Miracle Gro potting soil (regular, not with the crystals) because it's pretty hard to find a local source of decent potting soil of other sorts. I don't grow roses to keep in pots other than temporarily so I don't have an opinion about it long term. In the short term it can be fine, but you're not supposed to fertilize new bare roots for 6-12 months so I try to avoid the ones with fertilizer built in when I can. Having said this, the ones I potted up temporarily last year did as well as the ones I planted in potting mix without fertilizer, but it's not generally recommended to have that fertilizer for new bare roots. For amounts, I put a tablespoon or so into a 5-gallon bucket temporarily so you might use a couple in a 20 gallon bucket. There are some controversial posts about Soil Moist and potted roses (Quest-Rison is one that comes to mind), but there's a variety of opinions about anything else involving roses too. There are different results of planting with Soil Moist in the ground vs. in pots, and the pots are the ones more likely to benefit from the extra moisture. I'm sure people in your zone may have more opinions about this, but in my zone and yard it hasn't had any adverse effect that I can tell and has absolutely helped roses survive my summer with scant rain. There are a number of "discussions" here relating to the functionality of flush ceiling "hoods" and these discussions are recommended for review. In general, the moist, greasy, rising and expanding cooking plumes will contact the unit and surrounding ceiling, and depending on whatever side draft velocity the unit achieves as a function of distance from the slots, the cooking plumes will be partially captured and contained. All plume content not captured and contained will coat the ceiling, walls, and other surfaces. Note that the joist alignment must match the cooktop alignment for maximum effectiveness. (See the manufacturer's well done video for more information.) The mesh filters are suitable for the low flow velocities they are likely subjected to, but being aluminum have to be cleaned without using a dishwasher (probably the actual intent is to clean them without using caustic dish-washer chemicals). In most municipalities, a nominal 600 CFM exhaust system will require deliberate make-up air (MUA), but that is another discussion that can be searched out here to gain insight into the determinants of MUA complexity. There are a number of discussions here where use of an island or peninsula for the cooktop is criticized, so one might want to search them out to know what trades one is making. The document at the link below will provide insight into what the commercial ventilation requirements are that one tries to approximate with residential kitchen ventilation systems. The first dozen or so pages should be sufficient.
