Do you want the wall ovens for the oven space or do they have to be in the wall? If they don't have to be in the wall, how about two ovens in the island? Or a range with oven and then the second oven in the island or in the base cab next to the range? As an aside, I had double wall ovens in my old kitchen for 11 years and ditched them in the renovation. My range has a second, smaller oven, and that will be enough for us on those occasions when we have a lot to bake. I did like not having to bend over with the wall oven, but the trade off in loss of counter space made it not worth it to me. I guess that, in the long run, unless you can figure out a way that you like to add in a pantry to the existing cabinets, you might need to decide which is more important to you--the oven space or the food storage space. That's something that only you can decide.

Crumb topped apple pie 2 c flour 2/3 c firmly packed brown sugar 1/2 c uncooked regular oats 1/2 t salt 1/3 c chopped pecans 3/4 c butter, melted 4 c peeled, thinly sliced cooking apple (about 3 apples) 1/3 c sugar 1 1/2 t cornstarch 1/8 t salt 1/4 c water 1/2 t vanilla -Combine first 5 ingredients; add butter, and stir until blended. Measure 1 c firmly packed mixture; set aside for pie topping. Press remaining mixture in bottom and up sides of a well-greased 9-inch pie plate. Arrange apple slices in pieplate; set aside. -Combine 1/3 c sugar, cornstarch, and 1/8 t salt in a small saucepan; stir in water. Bring to a boil over medium heat; stir in vanilla. Pour hot mixture over apples; crumble reserved topping over pie. -Bake at 350 for 42 minutes, covering with aluminum foil during last 15 minutes to prevent excessive browning, if necessary. Someone gave my FIL a digital camera for Christmas and he had us to put it together and show him how to use it.Than he asked how to get his pics out.We told him we take the card and print them out.Bless his heart for 82 years old you can see why he asked.He said he just stick to flim cameras.We told him to call us and we show him any time how to take pics with it.He was so amazed how you can look back at the pics you took.You know you can hardly find flim cameras any more.They look at you like are you kidding when you ask if they sell them.

What an incredibly helpful thread! It has saved me from returning to panic mode. About a week ago I saw the spray-painted outline of the planned island for our new kitchen and it was 10 inches less in width than I had been told. (I had been told 46" wide and it was drawn as 36".) After seeing all of the posts and photos, I will be very content with 9' X 42"(we were able to add 6" back in without losing too much aisle space) . Thank you to all posters!
