sounds like it will be lovely, i have a multipurpose guestroom however, so mine won't be much good to you..i removed all the non multipurpose furniture from the room except the bed..and have a library table for a desk and 2 bookcases to make a library corner, i have a small ent center with a t v and a large video library, and i have a sewing armoire to store my sewing and crafts..

i believe that a desk is a nice thing to have in a guest room, mine faces one of the garden windows and then you can see through the other garden window when you are sitting or lying in bed.

As we're empty nesters we have two bedrooms set aside for guests. Amazingly, they are often both occupied.

This one has a queen-sized bed and aside from night stands and a chair, no other furniture.

We haven't placed TV's in either room yet - just waiting for this digital thing to all settle.

This is actually our master bedroom right now, but in our new home, I'm going to keep this same look-- but for our guest room. I love, love, LOVE our wall color. It's so warm and soft, but rich, too.

How wonderful to have a dedicated guest room! Mine has my roll-top oak desk in it for me. DD and her friends watch tv in there. I chose an oak trundle so that the room can look like a den when we don't have guests. We have a lot fo DS's friends that come with him to visit and so single beds work better for us, hence the trundle. Over the years I've found that visiting married couples don't mind sleeping in single beds while visiting us either. Like my brother said, "What makes me happiest is a COMFORTABLE guest bed!" We've made sure ours are very comfy. My biggest gripe when I I'm staying in someone's guest room is not having a bedside table and good reading lamp on BOTH sides of the bed . . . if it's a double, queen or king, I mean. DH & I both love to read in bed and I hate not having a good reading lamp on my side!

janjan - Just a thought here. I've had a guest room for about the past 8 years now. It's so fun to have a room I can keep nice and "company ready". I have one regret, and that was the choice of a double bed in that room. If you anticipate 2 guests sleeping in the bed I'd really consider a queen. So many people have king these days and a double feels just ridiculously small and uncomfortable in comparison. A queen is so much more roomy. I know your room is small but in a guest room you don't need a lot of furniture either. Bedside tables and maybe a chest to open a suitcase on and you're set. I keep plenty of room in the closet for guests to hang some clothes. I'd change out my bed in a heartbeat for a queen but I can't get DH to buy into the need for a new bed. My long range plan is to clean out the junk room and have a second guest room. I hope at that point I can get a queen. Then my grown children can have a larger bed and the double can be for grandchildren, one guest, etc. If you have the choice now though I'd give up a little space in the room for bed comfort.

I am actually fixing our guest room as we speak. I decided to go mostly white. I will post pics when I am done. I would like the room to look something like this.

I have a queen bed and I will not have a wooden head board. I will buy silver or grey head board.

One of my favorite guest rooms belongs to one of my favorite bloggers ("Between Naps on the Porch"), linked below. I have already bought the fabric I want to use for mine (blue/yellow toile) and have my mother's Blue Willow collection for the wall, so I was thrilled to see that she had used the same color scheme. My boys still use our extra bedrooms, but in the future when they are enjoying their lives on their own, I will have my dream guest room.

Just my husband and I also, so we have two guest rooms as well. Hope the pics help you along :)

The first is has a queen size bed, desk and a bench for suitcases. No other furniture...I never unpack wherever I go and have never known anyone who does, there is however, an empty walk-in closet if anyone needs to hang anything. I am in the process of making a quilt using the fabric on the bench in the lower right hand corner. At first the room was going to take on a southwestern feel, but then i found that fabric and it was all over...I like the sunflowers too ;)

The second has a full, we have a lot of kids and singles in the family so it works out well. Also no other furniture in here, but there is a folding luggage rack, bedside table and lamp and a walk-in closet as well. This is the cowboy chic room...as my friend and I call it ;)

Our guest room has a double bed with the only new piece of furniture being the armoire. The head board is an antique ranma (transom)sent to us from friends in Japan as a house warming gift. The room has its own bathroom. That and the large size of the room are probably its best features. (And maybe the fact that the view out the window is of a huge rock formation which is about ten feet away.)
