Since this thread was recently resurrected, I thought I'd add an addendum to my above post. The latest issue of Facts for Fancy Fruit (Purdue) had this to say. "As many experienced growers know, natural fruit drop occurs in two waves The first wave is where unfertilized flowers drop, and this has already happened. The second wave happens a little later and is caused by a shortfall in available carbohydrates. Leaf area is still developing so the supply of carbohydrates from photosynthesis is limited At the same time, many developing fruit require carbohy- drates to grow, so demand exceeds supply. This shortfall in carbohydrates is responsible for this second wave of fruit drop Conditions that extend this shortfall tend to increase fruit drop. For example, an extended period of cloudy weather means less photosynthesis, less carbohydrate and more fruit drop. For many of us in the state, we saw more cloudy weather than normal during early fruit development. The combined effect of reduced bee movement and limited pollination, slow pollen tube growth so less fertilization, and reduced photosynthesis all resulted in above average fruit drop. (Hirst)" Although the above comment is related to poor apple fruit set (a common topic on this forum) I think it may also have application to stone fruits.

one of my peaches did the very same thing. I thought I was seeing things! I hope someone responds.

Thank you all for your advice and pictures. I just LOVE them! After a weekend of being laid up again (fell off a machine at the gym and totally wrecked my back but am finally feeling a bit better now), I am hopingto get out there and prune this coming three day (can you say YEA!) weekend! Still on the fence about my climber as she is throwing out all sorts of laterals right now so this could be a good bloom year unlike prior years. She may have just had to have more time to come into her own. However, I am seeing that there are all sorts of little oak trees and other plants coming up through my rose bushes due to the mulch and birds. UGH! I may have lost my Sharifa Asma because of it if I can't pull them out. I have a feeling my garden is going to be very sparse this year due to a bunch of new roses going in to replace my old ones. Evelyn and Ambridge are reverting back to rootstock, so out they go. I have oak trees growing up in my Sharifa Asma as well as Evelyn, Mary Webb and now one of my Brother Cadfaels! I also have another unidentified bush growing up in my Peach Blossom. So it looks like I pretty much get to start from scratch all over again. Looks like an expensive year!

Thanks everyone! Very helpful! Melikeeatplanrs... maybe in SJ it was a mild winter, but as you know we have several micro climates here in the Bay Area. It wasn't a frost that ruined the blooms... all in the same week, right after it had bloomed... we had a weird blast of extremely high heat, then a weird last frost, the a wind storm with 65 mph gusts. The wind storm was crazy. It blew my super heavy pots across the yard. It blew my heavy metal spark arrester cage off my chimney and into my neighbors yard. It tore trees out of the ground. It wreaked total havoc all around here. I'm lucky just a few branches off my mature trees and not more damage. It had blooms, but I think that was the final straw for this young tree because after that storm it had none and it hasn't set anymore. :-( I will go ahead and prune it a little after spring and take care of it as usual, then look forward to the blooms next spring!
