Hey Konrad,

I had two five gallon pails full last year. Talk about juicy, runs down your chin. Nothing in the store compares to organic home grown!!

I love those purple dwarf irises, woodyoak! I finally ordered some (to be delivered this fall) as I've admired them for some time. I hope they, and your other flowers, weather the ice storm. I have daffodils sprouting and budding, but nothing else. I can't remember such relentless cold weather ever before.

Nancy and the bloom looks like a Siberian Iris , and Japanese iris and several other varieties. I had no idea till now just how many types of iris there are . Interesting. I emailed the go-to turf weed person at our state university this past weekend, wondering if was too late; I also saw what danielj described. Even though my instincts told me it was too early. He replied : “anytime in next 2-3 weeks should be fine; better early than late.” Morpheus: do you have a reference for bacterial role in decline of pre-emergent activity, and the thermophilic nature of those bacteria? ( I don’t doubt it; I‘ve just never read about it ).

Very nice. Like pear blooms but not their smell. Like the daffs and is that a birds nest in the tree?

The block is a Mason Bee and / or Orchard Bee condo. Basic 4"x4" block with 5/16" holes drill into it. The bee will lay eggs in the holes and pack with mud. The are very good pollinators.
