Strawberries are virus-susceptible, have other significant disease problems. Best to buy certified stock. If 'Cardinal' is not being sold anymore perhaps it became weakened, probably much of the regular procession of strawberry cultivars being introduced and then replaced has to do with them being overcome by health problems.

Me too, Nona! I keep checking "pages"...and there's nothing there. I know I'm guilty of having no information on mine. I had put a lot on my page and then removed it when someone started posting about the dangers of having too much info available for scammers. I really need to do it over again. I love reading about you guys. Like where you live, what you're interested in, your family, pets, etc.! As long as we don't post our SS#s and phone #s...we should be okay. LOL Certainly, it's not going to hurt to give a hint as to what state we live in. A little information helps us all have a better understanding of each other...and isn't that a big part of this whole thing? LOL I love the changing seasons in Ohio...and love, love, love going out after a fresh snow has fallen to take pictures. I'm sure my neighbors have labeled me a "nut". I go out in the middle of the night...whenever. I get some great shots of drifting snow on things and snow actually falling. Janie you have quite the mystery going on there! I think bluejay is a good guess for several reasons: 1. They aren't fussy about nesting sites, so they wouldn't object to a hanging basket. 2. They will use the nests of other birds 3. They will eat eggs of other birds 4. Their eggs are a shade of blue The cardinal couple may build another nest nearby, especially if they discover you are providing one of their favorite foods (what type of feeder are you using? They prefer to eat on a flat surface like a tray (or the ground), not on the perch-style feeders). They have a couple broods a year I think. They love safflower seeds too, which are more $$$ but the squirrels hate them, so if squirrels are a problem, spending more on safflower seeds might make sense (unless you have chipmunks, who love safflower!
