What happened to Camp Maple Syrup?

My daughter isn't happy with the maple syrup at her supermarket and asked me to bring some when I visit next week. She specifically is looking for Camp's, and I think that's what we usually had when she lived here. I checked at Giant but realized I haven't seen it for a while. I can get it on Amazon for $20! A very frustrating web search suggests they don't want to be found. It's owned by a Australian company. No links to "where to buy." I did see that Cook's Illustrated liked Camp's best.

So has anyone spotted it lately? If I know a chain carries it I can track it down.

Momj47, that's funny, I never thought to mix the stuff. Madi and Maci come over and they love French Toast but they hate the real maple syrup and refuse to eat it. They want the fake pancake syrup and I, of course, never have any. I bought a bottle of Mrs. Butterworth, I'm thinking it lasts forever on the shelf?

Thanks for all the input, compliments and pronunciation instructions...that "s" at the end threw me! I'm doing a little experiment. Yesterday, I left one of the tuiles out on the counter (soooo tempting!) and one was put into an airtight tupperware container where I couldn't see it, so it was not as tempting. This afternoon, I checked them both. The one on the counter was, as you may expect, not exactly crisp. The one in the container is perfect! Now I can make these ahead of time--I'll know to definitely keep them in an airtight container! I'll check my airtight container again tomorrow to evaluate the crispy factor and to see just how many days ahead of time I can make these! Smiles, Sooz

Springroz, that looks really good. Here the sap hasn't even started, but it's supposed to be 40F by Friday and stay above freezing for a couple of days. I don't think long enough for a run, though..... This is what it looks like here, so the trees aren't easily accessed anyway, and it would be hard to get the sap out of any unmaintained area anyway. The news said that Grand Rapids, Michigan was the third snowiest city in the United States this year, behind Erie, Pennsylvania with 108 inches and Buffalo, New York with 94 inches. Grand Rapids got 92 as of the 11th of February, but is up to 106 or something now. We got more than that but they only counted cities with over 100,000 residents. I guess that's why only 4 cities in Michigan made the top 10, LOL. Yes, that's Elery and Molly in our 1994 Silverado. (grin) Annie

Mcmann worded it well: Are you beginning to think that it might just not be worth it to allow him access to your property? Yes, that's exactly what I'm thinking. You know, I never thought about liability. My husband sure would have, though. My friend the lawyer, by the way, has a criminal defense practice. Not the most useful person to consult about this, I guess, but he'd come in handy if reach the end of my patience with this situation. :-) I like the idea of supporting a cottage industry, but I can't say I want it to take place here. The $100 would come in handy, but the price is too high. Stacie, I don't think this is on a par with someone who would rather see fruit rot than share it. There's a big difference between inviting neighbors to pick fruit from my trees (which I do every year) and staring at blue tubing for five months while feeling invaded. I will smile and say no. No, no, no. Smile, smile smile. No. :-)

Found it this morning at Weis Market in 8.5 oz. bottles (same size as at Amazon). Price is $5.56 but on sale this week for $4.99. If you don't have a Weis near you, e-mail me and I can buy as many as you want and meet you half-way one day for delivery.

That's cheaper than the Giant store brand, I think. We do have Weis markets here but I never shop there. I will check it out. Meeting would be fun though!

Ruthanna, I was just at Weis and they don't have it. There is a new one I didn't go to. I have a flyer though and it's not in this week's specials, so I'm thinking they won't.
So I would like to take you up on your kind offer. Will you please get me four of them the next time you are there? That would be great.

I still like my local stuff best, although Trader Joe's Grade B is pretty good. I get mine locally, from Cook's Sugar Bush in Niles, Michigan. They do ship and I can get a gallon of syrup for $45.00, but have to pay shipping. It lasts in my refrigerator for months, until I run out, and then I buy more. Also available in smaller sizes, including a 64 oz bottle for $26.00.

We did a maple syrup tasting last fall.

Oh my. What a difference in tastes. Really good quality maple syrup is really good

I prefer the Light Golden Amber, my DD likes the darker syrups better.

We got some of each

The kids like pancake syrup. I always add some real syrup to the bottle, though.
