I think you could dress up your table by using the blue ones with any clear ones you have. They're unique, I'd keep them. I don't like the "test tube" ones - if you want the look for Halloween then just juice glasses would work, they just look unstable to me.

Of those two choices, I'd keep the blue ones. I do like the 'test tube' ones, but if you are cleaning out, those could go to someone else.

So...are you glad we are choosing the blue ones or are you sad? Your reaction may tell you which ones YOU want to keep.

Oh HappyinTexas - what a question! I can go either way! I love the test tube ones but secretly every time I wash them I'm scared to death that they will break and they're pretty darn expensive.

The blue ones don't match anything that I own but every time I pull those out for a toast I always get wonderful comments even if the same person has used them in the past.

Maybe for my nerves sake I should keep the blue ones.

I'll be honest though - I was secretly happy when all of the matching blue wine glasses broke. It was a chance to get something more streamlined and paired down for my tastes.

Then....

Get rid of both sets and go buy something you adore.

lol...I'm serious, but then, those aren't mine. I have some juice glasses that are totally impractical for my life. They take up a ton of cabinet space. BUT, they were my mom's and I got rid a so much of her stuff that wasn't to my taste. I thought I'd use them, but I don't. I need to be free of them, but I can't seem to do it.

Maybe after you've sorted through all your stuff, you'll be able to hold my hand while I do mine.

Now, box those up and go shopping. ;0)

Or KEEP them both - but pack one set up in a box and store it with your holiday decorations. The boxes that cases of imported bottled beer comes in are great for stemware -- plus, they come with good beer! ;-)

Space is at an absolute premium and will be even more so once we move.

Besides - I feel like I've chosen the clutter that I want to keep - my pictures - and each time I get rid of 1 more thing I feel my mind is a little less cluttered and I have more breathing room. And money!

I'm with sweeby, but then again, I have far too many stems in my stemware "collections". I definitely would box the tubes and keep the blue out for "every" day use.

You could give the blue ones to one of your friends, who admires them...they would make a great gift!

Blue! I love champagne!

I love champagne, but a huge part of the fun and enjoyment comes from watching the bubbles and admiring the color of the particular champagne you're drinking. The blue glasses don't allow that, so I recommend you keep the clear glasses, use them till they break, then buy a flute design you really like.

But, I'm much more obsessed with drinking wine and champagne than I am in decorating, so my opinion may well be in the minority. Whatever you choose, enjoy your champagne!

Since champagne is the perfect beverage for anytime-teehee-I tend to drink it more often than some others. IMHO, the test tube glasses are awkward for drinking. By the bottom half of the glass, you are having to tilt way too much and goodness knows, after a couple of glasses, well, tilting could have disastrous consequences ;) I would get rid of both and buy something you love that has a better shape. I actually use my grandmother's v-shaped (and large!) wine glasses. They work fine and look grand on the table.

Honestly, the blue ones are pretty for display, but since blue foods tend to be unappealing to most people, they do affect the appreciation for the wine you serve in them.

The test tube ones don't look in proportion and seem to lack the grace you could find in a lovely flute.

I think I would either pack them up or give them away, both sets and find something new (doesn't have to be expensive) that really celebrates your style.

You could even buy an inexpensive set of flutes and hand-paint or stencil them with glass-friendly paint. Now THOSE would be worthy of your style, and your guests would find them enchanting.

While the blue ones are pretty, I don't think I would want to drink a glass of lovely Veuve Cliquot out of them. part of the enjoyment of champagne, to me, is seeing the color and the bubbles. It's like a whole sensory experience. So if I had to pick one set I'd keep the clear, modern ones. We have ones like the photos below. They have really fine edges, so they feel elegant, and they keep the bubbles going for a loooooooong time. I think they might be from Crate and Barrel. Not sure, it was a long time ago :)

You made very valid points but quite frankly when I think about one of my IKEA red wine glasses breaking (which are my favorites) I don't sweat it.

Sooooo - since the blue ones are fine and I hold my breath each time I wash the test tube ones (a reviewer actually said they were high maintainence & I agree) I think I will rest easy all around and get the IKEA flutes.

Les917 - I'd been thinking about etching some beer glasses for DH. Have you ever done that? It'd be pretty cool to have all of our glasses match w/ a monogram!
