Ohh, you all are fascinating! I wish the catalpa 'Aurea' at Forest Farm was much cheaper and I'd place my first order! I did pick up a ribes odoratum at a garage sale/plant sale last year. It's 4 ft tall and was $2.- Yeah I'm going back to find more values in the spring! I did take advantage of a co-op again this year with woodthrush (GW) and bought over 50 lilium bulbs for about $70 Orienpets are lovely!If they do the right plants at the co-op for Walter's Gardens I will put in an order for perennials too. I also placed my first order with Thomson Morgan seed as they had a $10 and NO minimum order offer with the last catalog. I also purchased seed from Valueseeds? seeds very cheap, and recommended at the Tom Clothier website. I am hoping to buy unusual aroids from lariann's personal collection this spring(GW) Jackson and Perkins has a nice metal trellis set I'm eyeing.... And if the stinkin'!! snow clears up by then( 10 more inches today!) I'd like to drive all the way to Madison this weekend for the giant garden expo and see what all the vendors have to offer. Tickets are $6-7 for a day of talks and all. It would be a nice break to think green instead of white...... Karen

Alpinas and macropetalas will do well in shade even north wall. Remember that dark colors will never play good in shade. I have about 50 dif clems in partial shade and all of them do well, maybe not as prolific as full sun but great show anyway. Polish spirit is one of most prolific for me but flowers are similar to jackmanii in color so would not look good in very shady spot IMO.

GH, Landreth is on the east side of B'more - probably a hike for you! I've never been there before, either, but I live on the SW side of town, so it looks like a quick trip thru the old Harbor Tunnel should get me there easily. I missed the Cylburn sale - Mother's Day weekend was really busy for me. I'm quite familiar with Valley View, as I work in Hunt Valley, on McCormick Rd, just around the corner from VV. I've bought a lot of stuff from them over the years - mostly supplies, as I grow a lot of stuff from seed, and get more stuff from the GW swaps! I've been to Watsons once or twice, but admittedly, I don't hang out in the Towson/Lutherville/etc. area, as I try to get out of there as early as possible to beat the Beltway traffic. On my side of town, we have Garland's Gardens in Catonsville, plus there are several larger nurseries in Columbia. But if I REALLY want a nursery fix, I head down I-95 to Behnke's in Beltsville.
