Oh for goodness sakes, Andrea. I read this post without looking at the year, was so relieved he was home, then to read your last post... honey I am so sorry you lost your pal. He sure had many good years and your home was a blessing to him, as I bet he was to it. Shedding a tear for you. xoxo -- Z

I'd probably call the vet, but when a cat has had a traumatic experience (sounds like she may have been "picked up" & then dropped off or abandoned), she often is very prickly for quite some time. Years ago, I went on vacation & left my cat Cinders, who was just about glued to me every day, at home but in the care of a roommate. When my roommate picked me up at the airport, she said Cinders had missed me, had cried every day, etc. When I walked in the door, Cinders looked at me, turned her back, & stalked out of the room! It took a couple of weeks for her to get in a good mood with me again. & that was just me going off for a week & leaving her in her own territory with a roomie she knew! So I bet if you'll be very patient with your cat, & shower her with love, she'll come around.

Have you had him for a long time? Some cats do what's called a "silent meow" for whatever reason (I think they just know how cute they look to humans when they do that) So maybe hes just getting relaxed around you his true personality is coming out? If he's been with you a while then never mind, I think that trait would have come out by now - can cats get laryngitis?

One of our cats sometimes meows at night, usually bored (from sleeping all day) and other times demanding to be fed even when there's food out in the kitchen. I can't function without sleep and my life saver has been a scat mat. (Don't know why I didn't mention this earlier!) I place it outside my bedroom door and with the door closed I can sometimes hear meowing but it isn't enough to completely wake me up. There are cheaper versions of the mat available but I have owned my Scatmat for 8 years and it's still working great. Just replace batteries as needed, which isn't often. It rolls up for storage and lays flat when unrolled. The mat has 3 levels of 'strength' you can set it to. When introducing a cat to it I set it at the lowest level. To me, it feels like strong static electricity so it's not painful but does get ones attention. Now, most of the time I don't even have to turn the mat on. All it takes is for the cats to see it and they walk the other way. Sort of like flag training with invisible fencing. : ) Your kitty may not be happy not sleeping in your bed, but it sounds like neither of you is sleeping anyway. :/ Also, I've been the tranqulizer route with another cat and it only made her condition worse, plus her whole personality changed. Wasn't worth the effort and $$ for me.
