Outdoor Rugs for Screened Porch Suggestions

My screened porch is fabulous, but the floor is just wrong. Concrete floor has been rough-patched...patch color doesn't match, and not smoothed. Just unattractive.

Also, the floor gets very dirty. Dirt blows in and sweeping is weekly at minimum. Fine. The dirt issue is what it is, and so be it.

I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions on what type of rug can withstand some regular dirt beating and/or hosing off from a clothesline every couple weeks during the season...and be able to hold up for 3-5 years. I'm a clean-freak, so I'm willing and able to do the upkeep.

During torrential rains (a few times a season in my area - not regularly), an edge would get wet and I'd expect the material to not disintegrate if it gets a little wet from time to time between cleanings.

I'm willing to spend a few hundred bucks for this...an 8x10 size in the seating area, but not a few hundred if it only holds up for 1-2 seasons.

Should be comfortable on bare feet and look nice.

Anyone have any suggestions? I've Googled my options and there are so many sources...and every source makes their outdoor rugs sound superior, of course.

I intend to get the floor fixed & re-done professionally...but that's low on my priority list, it will be a few years before it gets on the docket.

Who has outdoor rugs they love that would suit my conditions?

Just my opinion, but putting a rug in there is just going to add to your workload and unhappiness, especially if you are a clean freak. Even the lightest 8x10 rug is going to be a bear to roll up and move outside to hose down. And then there is the matter of moving all the furniture to get to the rug.

It would be so much easier to buy a can of paint and topcoat the concrete.

But to answer your question, I would go with an outdoor polypropylene rug. It will be softer on the feet than a natural fiber rug.

Hi, I'll tell you that the hosing off of outdoor rugs is not what it's cracked up to be if they are large. Keep your eye on overstock's outdoor rugs, buy something you like on clearance and just plan on replacing it every year ot two. I just bought an 11 x 8 for around $124, it had great reviews and I'm happy. Husband and I bought some thin pavers for the back and front porch on craigslist that I plan on finishing with a wet coat, hopefully we will get them down by summers end. I will still use an outdoor area rug though.

Unless you rectify the water issues in construction aspects of the porch itself, the sustainability, longevity, and maintenance of any flooring flooring system and associated area construction will be in question (just like your wood floor and columns)unless you choose a system specifically made for an exterior application. With your porch in its current state, what comes to mind is a ceramic/stone solution made for an exterior application with membrane over mud-bed over menbrane construction and a drainage/gutter/flashing system (like at least Schluter Ditra/Kerdi or even better Troba/TrobaPlus with a BARA/BARIN drainage/gutter systems for porch/terrace/deck systems). as for tile product choices, a high quality porcelain is an excellent choice for decorative exterior applications. a high grade masonry sealer for the joints is advisable as well. The important thing here is to either: (1) fix the water coming in, or (2) use a system where water penetration is irrelevent. Please dont make the mistake of simply installing cement board and tile over the wood substrate to save costs. While it may last longer than the wood, you will still most likely get water penetration into the wood subfloor/framing system, which in time, will still deteriorate the underlying wood, eventually causing tile/backer board system failure. Hi there, We live in NY - have a balcony (live in an apartment) and this summer got a nice outdoor rug. I am worried about leaving it out all winter. It wasn't super cheap, and we love it and want to use it for summers yet to come. I looked on Amazon for a "rug bag" to roll it up and zip it into (like the patio furniture bags) but couldn't find one. Please give suggestions, thanks!

Won't the wind blow around the solar screen (is this really screen like window screen or fabric that "screens" out the sun?) or solar fabric? Duradeck roll on vinyl coating. You need to think of this as an 'out door' floor. Ignore the 'screens'. They keep the bugs out. That's it. Whatever is used for vinyl deck coatings in your area is going to be your best bet.

We have a large outdoor mat, (not rug) that we use outside our rv. Lightweight to roll up, hose off, sweep, or even vacuum. Not sure if this could be an option for you but some are very durable and pretty.

DSis has purchased rugs from Frontgate that are holding up well. Miss. weather and rain.

DM has one from Home Depot that is in its 3rd year and still looking great. It sits on concrete that is often damp and it also gets wet on two sides each time it rains.

We've used the rugs natesgram mentioned and they may be an option for you if you can find the color you like. We used them at horse shows when a stall needed to be turned into a tack room! They clean up easily with a broom and are easy to fold and move.

Instead of buying an expensive rug and hoping it lasts, I'd be inclined to buy less expensive and replace them every 2-3 years if necessary. Doing so would allow you to decide if you like dealing with a rug in that area before investing a lot of money. Costco often has 8x10's for $100.
